That mispronunciation of Bass is the best thing ever tbh. Kills me with laughter every time 😂

The "Why you don't understand?" always reminds me of the ancient "y u no...?!" meme.

Fun fact, the actress for Mega Man in MM8 stated in an interview that she wasn’t aware that she misspoke Bass’s name, in fact, while she was recording the line, no one in recording studio didn’t call her out on this error and she only found out how Bass is supposed to be pronounced in said interview

"Bass...why you don't understand?" That quote is so ripe for memes.

Also the "I gonna do what I should have done years ago" thing was non existent in the original version. For some reason, the English localisation team decided to put that in. In the original, Mega man is just silent. The original version where Mega man isn't about to murder Dr Wily is the cannon version.

The first thing you mentioned about Dr. Wily being spelled W-I-L-E-Y being a 'direct translation' is not only a nebulas claim but technically incorrect. The closest thing to a direct translation would be taking the syllables of each katakana that make up his name, ワ(Wa) イ(I) リー(RII) (the dash extends the vowel sound), and converting them to english letters to get Wairii. That's your 'direct translation'. If we're talking about the *correct* translation, it would still be Wily because that is the most commonly used English spelling and therefore the most correct. But, generally speaking, Wily and Wiley are both accurate translations since they are both pronounced similarly to the Japanese spelling.

about that mega man 7 one...
did you ever wonder why he says it so slow?that's because in the japanese version, mega man(or rather, rockman)just goes like "..."
the american version just replaced the text to make it sound cooler or something, but they forgot to change the speed of the text

Dr. Light could really be either way because "light and "right" are pronounced the same way

So...Dr. Wily should've been "Dr. Long" all along

This is all that came with old school gaming before gaming became casual.

The whole game of MM7 while being translated from Japanese both correctly and mostly incorrectly, that ending with him saying that he’s going to kill wily was solely added in by the us translation team and is in nowhere in the original translation

And for that reason, I call Bass like the fish. I like how it sounds 🤭

for the light/right and crash/clash, the confusion comes from the fact that both are pronounced the same in japanese. japanese doesn't distinguish between the "l" and "r" sound, so when translating english words written in japanese to the english alphabet, specially without context to go with them (which, these being names, they don't have), there can be confusion and doubt as to which word it is. in this case light and right are both spelled ライト ("raito"), and clash/crash are spelled クラッシュ("kurasshu"). there is no difference.

Light is actually correct because in the alternate timeline of Battle Network his last name is Hikari, which literally means 'light'.
