Feel free to send me a message on twitter! @uiproductions

This is a video showing the automatic sliding door I built in my house. It is powered by air, it is fully enclosed in the wall, and it has the appearance of a standard interior door.

I want to see the fast hydraulic Star Wars door next. The one that cuts people in half.

That's a nice bit of engineering. Not only does it have movements but - a) It closes slowly to stop it mashing people, b) The decor matches what we can see of the rest of the house, with the mechanism neetly hidden, c) The control panel is well hidden as well, not an unsightly box or gap. Very nicely done.

I love how when it opens it sounds exactly like the doors on the Enterprise-D. :D

-I hope it can be opened manually in an emergency
-I hope the closing is safe, that the closing force is light or there is a sensor.

Man this is awesome. I like when people build things on their own that is more advanced then the current market products, because now someones saying, "if he can do it, so can we".

Wow, I rate you a 5 outta 5! You are realy gifted, you should invent something to help society. You should patent that and create a a pressurized panic door and sell them to innercity shop owners. They could press the button when getting robbed, wham..bullet proof security glass slides shut. Eventually you can market it to bank, the Gov will make them mandatory. You become an Elite. Happy Holidays.

@tommyopera

I was in Taiwan a few months ago. To my surprise, none of the automatic doors had sensors on them of any kind. Everything from college campuses and book stores to gas stations and restaurants... all had to press a button to open the damn door. They didn't even have a sensor to tell if something was obstructing the path.

@bulletproof2353 Thanks. It doesn't actually blow air out the vent. The vent was mainly there so I could get to the mechanics in case something breaks down. I should probably remove the vent and seal up the wall now.

@Udderman you could override the door from the control panel or fire a phaser at it if everything else fails. You could also use the transporter to beam you out provided it was not damaged during the fire. ;-)

I won't call a nerd don't worry I will just say that you created something very cool.

You need two things. 1. an infrared beam to make sure nothing is blocking the door (would probably be more of a problem in a house with children or pets I suppose), and 2. a motion sensor, so you don't have to hit a button.
