An overview of the air controls for the Star Trek Doors project. Here I show you what I am thinking for the electro-mechanical controls for the project. This is just the basic controls. The idea is that by controlling the air valves (and anything else) by Arduino, it will make it easy to add more to the project as we go, such as the motion sensor and door safety.

for safty you can allways use an infrared sender and receiver. At least thats how they do it in an elevator.

i dont understand why you dont use a belt driven by a motor... a belt with a pulley at each end moves in both directions same time, i just depending on with side u connect the lever. to add safety u can use ir, ultrasonic and even laser, each way has its pros and cons. another way is to mount a hose in the door blades and a pressure sensor. if the pressure is raising the door might be closed correctly, or there is a person or something else in between stucked. i would recommend to sensor the whole height of the door, to prevent that a single leg, animal or whatever can be stuck.
