Honestly you can ground these characters without removing their defining characteristics. Penguin can still wear top hats or dress nicely while still being a crime boss. I’d like to see Penguin use trick umbrellas. Maybe ones that have hidden blades or (one that I like the idea of this version of penguin using) a hidden pump-action shotgun. I hope that the show/ reevesverse doesn’t water down these iconic characters in order to fit a “realistic, gritty, deconstructed” mold that’s been done to death.

If anything, they can “keep” it like that. Have his name be “Oswald Cobblepot”, but part of his development is people originally thinking of him as small, so he changed it to “Oswald “Oz” Cobb” so people don’t make fun of him more than they already do. But down the line, when he’s not being made fun of anymore, he accepts his original name and does something like “My name is Oswald Cobblepot…but you can call me ‘The Penguin’” as he does something like talk to some lower-rung thug in Gotham

I agree, changing his name is stupid, I feel like his funny name was one the things that people made fun of and pushed him to be more villainous, and nobody’s gonna make fun of the name Cobb.

I have two guesses: one, the reason why his surname is changed to 'Cobb' is because 'Cobblepott' sounds to rich-y and elegant for a guy who's from a working class, middle-class family. It was seen in the show where he visists his mother's house. And two, one of his brothers could be Talon since Oz said he had brothers and was seen pictures of them in his mother's house and in his place above a jewelry store.

I love the Penguin Series so Far but This Name Change is Stupid as Hell and makes no sense, Al’s why the Penguins Genderbend in Caped Crusader it’s confirmed that the Only Reason this Genderbend was made was because Colin Farrell wanted this Penguin to be Different from Reeves Version, Sektor and Cyrax made more sense than This.
