Seeing WinXP reminds me of how Windows and even Office 2003-2010 used to have a friendly and welcoming aesthetic. Modern Windows looks very cold, serious, even soul-less. Hell, even the Windows logo no longer has multiple colors, just solid blue.

3 months ago I re-installed XP on my old Pentium D system which I upgraded with an SSD. I was able to get the license activated using Legacy Update. It's a fantastic tool and it is totally free.

XP is one of my favorite OS. Now I have to go to my garage to get out my old XP system and laptop and re-install Diablo, Diablo 2, Warcraft 2, and Starcraft on it. Such great games and era. Like you I could play these games for days.

I miss walking into Gamestop as a kid being an adult sucks dude it's not what it used to be anymore everything has just gotten way too damn expensive glad to see someone using Windows XP without people attacking you over it I'm running with Garuda Linux right now.

Awesome video! I used to have a Lenovo y580 with the 660m, i7, and max ram it support. That was a great laptop. Ended up selling it for something much smaller. Seeing your laptop was a wave of nostalgia.

Great video. I built an xp computer recently for my kids to play a bunch of my games. I used a 3rd gen i5 and 730. The 3rd gen Intel was the newest processor still containing XP microcode and the NVIDIA 700-series cards were the newest card with XP drivers. My 6 year old LOVEs command and concquer generals. I used a version of XP (maybe the same as yours) with updated SATA, NIC and other drivers. I think a lot of games like these would be great ports onto something like a chrome book.

Make it a series because I have some DOS and Windows 3.1 games.

That old EA logo just hits different man. I mostly remember it from the old Harry Potter games.

I set up something similar for my son the games are dead cheap and surprisingly the games seem better now then they was then . The way around the xp glitch generally is to create a boot supported hard drive on a xp machine the drivers can be a issue . But use a driver software to find them it can at least get you up and running .I have a switch on my pc running multiple drives windows xp and even android as we have a touchscreen . The retro stuff is brilliant 👍🏻 absolutely you have a new fan

Yes, I was about to say that XP had support on Intel CPUs up until 3rd gen. and regarding AMD, they supported XP up to the FX series CPUs. I have 2 PCs that triple boot, XP, win 7 and 10. and 2 that dual boot into XP, or 10. I call it the hardware sweet spot.

The cost of parts for one of those older systems may vary. I just upgraded my Core2 Duo machine from an E4600 to an E8600 for roughly $50. This is a pretty big deal because the E8600 is faster (3.3 GHz vs. 2.4 GHz) has three times the L2 cache (6MB vs. 2MB) and supports a faster Front Side Bus (1333 MHz vs. 800 MHz).

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Win XP, 32 bit. Have been able to get many updates installed, but I suspect there are more available. How do I find the updates? "Legacy Update" doesn't work. The proprietary Toshiba drivers are unavailable. Tried starting from scratch, but without the drivers, nothing works right.

Many games are on steam now and if you run Pop os it just works with steam and proton.

Another iteration of XP should be released. On an SSD and modernized but staying true to its GUI and functionality.

I play those games and Lord of the Realm on Windows 11. The graphics card driver translates from 4k to 640 x 480 and the sound system translates the sound!
