It's not a trailer. It's a cool guy with his hat sideways lol

Remember kids. Always put in “tow” mode when you do your 4x4 launches.

FYI. If your cruise control only works when a trailer is plugged in, check your third brake light. If it's burned out, change it, then try cruise control again.

I’ve not used this much hauling trailers. Purely because I have really small trailers, but I have used this a lot going down hill when I don’t feel like locking it into a certain gear. Living in mountains, you still want to upshift but not wear your brakes, this actually helps alot

Don't need to shift down unless its hunting between gears. Tow haul changes shift times and shift speeds to keep the rpms in the powerband. It also locks the converter differently. Use it on a 4l60e if you're hauling anything over 500 lbs, on a 4l80e you really only need it if youre absolutely loaded down

As a former 5.3L owner who blew their tranny climbing a grade not in tow haul mode, I can confirm this is true. Chevy service manager said he had never seem a tranny grenade like mine did in his 20 years of experience. Yay for me. 😊

Tow haul also raises transmission line pressure about 15% across the board in the transmission tables.

That tow mode really helped out towing close to 6, 500(4.3 not ideal) up the grapevines here in California. No passing power but did good.

Tow mode also allows engine braking when you let off the gas. It will downshift sooner also.

I literally was just explaining this to my son the other night on a 2011 GMC Yukon. Ive been a tech for 20+ years. Most people dont realize that the overdrive and mountains or towing, do not mix. Just like you said it will burn them up fast.

Why would you put it in third? Doesn’t the tow/haul mode already adjust the transmission shift points?

Fix this issue via adding a transmission cooler and a bigger rear differential to take away stress off the transmission

I’ve been meaning to look this up for the past almost 2 years that I’ve had a 05 Silverado, but always forget to. Glad I got this recommended. I liked your short on spark plugs for the same motor as well

On point, a little more gas usage butt cheaper than a rebuild...😊

Even for mountain driving with no load, I would use the tow haul mode. It reduces shifting and keeps the torque converter locked for longer. It really helps reduce the trans temp and provides more torque.

Also good for "racing" they say! 😂

My 5.3l Silverado has 4.10 gears. I leave it in drive when I tow and I put in and out of tow mode based on the situation. That said, when I tow, my loads are pretty consistent and down common/familiar routes so I’ve learned how my truck responds and can do it by “feel”. Also added a transmission temp gauge when I got my cluster rebuilt and that has been helpful as well.

It also helps with braking, as it'll hold rpms high and act as a sort of engine brake (tho not very strong) when you let off the gas.

When delivering with FedEx, I'd always drive with tiw/haul when I had a full load

Also makes it downshift earlier to, as you said, keep it in the higher rpms. But it also does some engine braking when going downhill, taking some of the strain off the brakes

2006 1500HD 6.0 L. I always towed like this absolutely ZERO issues able to hold 55-60mph babying the gas pedal going up the grapevine in CA. Love that solid older truck!!!
