I learned about mindful eating years ago, and I still think it is one of the most effective tools for weight management. I was taught that we should use a hunger scale from 1-10 to determine when, and how much to eat. The key is to never let your hunger get to the danger zone, say at a 7 or above, because this is when you are more likely to overeat or make poor food choices. Part of the philosophy is what you touched on, being aware of your hunger as you are eating. Stop when you are no longer hungry, not when you are full. I remember sitting down for my first meal after I learned about this. I had a plate of three tacos. I ate slowly, and after two tacos I was no longer hunger. The thought of leaving that third taco on the plate was kind of depressing! We are so conditioned to eat everything on our plate, that the mere thought of leaving anything is disappointing. Healthy food choices are oh so important, but mindful eating is the key to unlocking weight loss and management! Great video. I have been doing this for the last 8 months and lost 34 pounds. (Just over a pound a week!)
I also started thinking of my food the way I think of the way I dress or decorate my home - I want the best for my body that I can afford and I don't want junky clothing or cheap decorations and neither does my body. The more natural and healthy, the better.

Practicing mindful and intuitive eating has helped me loose close to 60 lbs. After years of yoyo dieting, I just started listening to my body instead. Intermitent fasting, fasted weight training, and overall mindfulness is my winning formula.

In our fast-paced society, we face an abundance of food choices every day. On top of that, distractions have shifted our attention away from the actual act of eating, and onto televisions, computers and smartphones. Eating has become a mindless act, often done quickly. This can be problematic, since it actually takes the brain up to 20 minutes to realize you're full. If you eat too fast, the fullness signal may not arrive until you've already eaten too much. This is very common in binge eating. By eating mindfully, you restore your attention and slow down, making eating an intentional act instead of an automatic one.

The sanest approach to maintaining a healthy eating lifestyle I've ever heard. I've started doing a lot of it already, such as removing distractions and really paying attention to the whole sensory input of the meal. It's awesome to do!
And have shared this video with a lot of others that I know are struggling with eating healthy consistently.

Thank you for this video, this has been a real struggle for me. Ever since my husband and I got married, fast food and eating out has become chronic in our home. For me, my biggest struggle is setting aside time to make things for the week. I know I have the time, it's just being mindful and disciplined in doing it, has been my struggle.

Love the video and the tips! One piece of advice I heard and I also follow is to put my fork down in between bites while I chew. Forces you to slow down while you eat and be mindful of what you're eating.
