How to play the dreaded "F" chord on guitar, for beginners: The video I wish I had when I started learning guitar!

Guys, there is no way around it, at some point everyone has to learn how to play an F chord on guitar. It is one of the more tricky guitar chords to master as a beginners, but it is essential for you to grow as a guitarist and be able to jam on the songs that YOU want to play! I get countless questions and comments like "How do I play an F chord if I can't play barre chords yet?" and "Is there a way to play this song without the F chord??". Important to note: If you are trying the 3rd "middle ground" version keep in mind that if you are a beginner and using a nylon string guitar - which is way easier to press the strings down on - you might find it hard or even impossible to bar the e and B string at the same time because the strings on a nylon string guitar are significantly wider apart than the ones on steel strings so the full bar F Chord may actually be easier for you to begin with on nylon strings.

Another good tip
If you wanna master the f chord you have to master the bar chords start by baring the first three strings on your guitar and then add another string to the bar each time you fell like you masterd the previous bar

Still struggling with this, but, to break it down even further, I'm finding a helpful way to practice is to strum each string individually. Shows clearly where my pressure is weak.
Also, possibly of use: in the third version, bar the top three strings, not just the top two. For me it makes it easier to hold down the high E. Plus, sometimes, as in the VU's After Hours, which is how I learned this, you switch to a new chord by raising the middle finger.

And finally, in that third version, or, arguably, fourth version, drawing from the simple first version, it can sound fine not to bar the low E at all with the thumb, especially if you're mainly strumming the higher strings. I realise we don't want to cheat forever, but I'm currently playing a wide-necked classical and there's simply no way my hand can do the whole thing.

Your first F Chord is actually a FMaj7 which is not always a good substitute for F Major. The first finger should be allowed to touch the first string and mute (deaden) it when necessary. F Chord three should show the placement of the palm on the backside of the neck in order to fret this chord properly. Most students struggle with finger independence with the two string barre.
