The Monaco Grand Prix is the crown jewel in the Formula 1 calendar, but has an enormous capacity for rubbish races thanks to the lack of passing opportunities. Can this be rectified? Could we the people find a solution for Monaco's overtaking problems?

To put just how bad Monaco is for passing: Daniel Ricciardo lost his MGU-K, losing over 200hp and Vettel still could not pass him for the win in a fully functional Ferrari

For as long as I can remember the Monaco Grand Prix on most occasions has been motorsport's 0-0 draw between Burnley and Crystal Palace.

Three things are guaranteed at Monaco:

You can’t pass anywhere

The best qualifying session of the year

And cars drowning at the swimming pool.

the problem isn't that you can't overtake at Monaco, that's its gimmick. The issue is that a lot of tracks seem to have stolen that gimmick.

I honestly think they should use the Monaco GP weekend in F1 to be the equivalent of an NBA All-Star Weekend, for example.. something with 'special' (and safer) races and challenges/events between the drivers, that would NOT count points for the Championships and it would be just to entertain the fans (and for the drivers and the teams to just interact with each other, literally for fun, without all of that heavy Championship competitive feeling in the air) - simply a festive weekend - pretty much like what they have at Goodwood, but using Monaco (the most 'charming' F1 track) to do it.. I don't know.. I believe that, depending on the different ideas for these 'festive events' on the track during the weekend, it would be a LOT more fun to watch than the actual championship race..

Monaco is just a novelty. It's cool to watch. It is like many races in motorsport where it's more about being there than the pure competition.

There is land reclamation planned in Monaco in the next 5 years called Le Portier which is seemingly the best opportunity to change up the track a bit. Pretty much everywhere else is already built on but this new area is a fresh slate of land and could allow for a new area of track between the hairpin and the tunnel. Maybe even allowing for a much longer run into the tunnel, making passing much more possible.

I used to race on tracks that had these Gold coloured ‘?’ Boxes on the road. Eventually swapped them for Rainbow coloured ones. They dropped all sorts of random shit on the track. Used to make things pretty exciting.

Monaco is a great track for Formula E, but not necessarily for Formula 1. At least not with the current Formula 1 cars.

When Josh posts on a weekend, you know it’s gonna be a good weekend.

Technically you could improve the hairpin by removing for the GP the inside pavement. Could allow some switcheroos there.

Alternatively, what about running a reverse lap, with the pitlane used as the race track (moving the pits to the start "straight") ?

1) Remove the angled kerb at Ste Devoteso that the edge of the track proper follows the edge of the pit lane.
2) Remove the Nouvelle Chicane and carry on along Avenue JFK rather than along the quayside. (If they could remove the trees between Avenue JFK and the quayside, the whole width of both could be used as the straight here).
3) Reclaim part of the NW corner of the harbour to create a new Tabac connecting Avenue JFK directly to the track in front of the swimming pool.
4) Reverse the stands between the swimming pool exit and Rascasse so that the track runs directly along the water's edge along this stretch.

Changes 2-4 would create a much faster, more flowing second half of the circuit with more passing opportunities.
