In this video, I have explained about Human Development Index, Definition of Human Development Index, Origin of HDI, How Human Development Index is calculated, how ranking is fixed, what is life expectancy index, education index and GNI Index.
Before 1990, GDP or Per Capita income was considered as one of the prime factor of stating development of a country. However, when the HDI came, the picture completely changed. Where many countries with highest Per Capita Income, did not fall in top 10 ranks of HDI.

Human Development Index (HDI)
Definition: The Human Development Index (HDI) is a statistical tool used to measure a country's overall achievement in its social and economic dimensions. The social and economic dimensions of a country are based on the health of people, their level of education attainment and their standard of living.
The Human Development Index (HDI) was created to emphasize that expanding human choices should be the ultimate criteria for assessing development results. Economic growth is a means to that process but is not an end in itself. The HDI can also be used to question national policy choices, asking how two countries with the same level of Gross National Income (GNI) per capita can end up with different human development outcomes.
Origin of the HDI
A Pakistani economist Dr Mahbub-ul-Haq created the Human Development Index in 1990. He said in true sense development is all about enlarging people’s choice in order to lead long, healthy lives with dignity.
1. Life Expectancy: A key element in calculating the HDI is life expectancy at birth. The life expectancy factor helps to determine how long the average citizen lives, how healthy she can remain during her life and how much she can contribute in her working life.
2. Education Index: The education index is another important component in the HDI calculation. The education index is found by dividing the number of years of schooling for adults age 25 and older by the expected years of schooling for children of school age.
3. Gross National Income Per Capita:The gross national income per capita, or GNI, measures the annual income of the average citizen based on purchasing power parity, or PPP. The GNI index uses a minimum income of $100 and a maximum of $75,000.

His method of calculating Education Index is wrong. First you have to take geometric mean of the two sub indices then divide it by the highest geometric mean.

Sir, there was a mistake on calculation of the GNI index, the numerator is supposed to be a subtraction of log(100)from log(6353) and not log(0)
