Human Development Index: Quantifying Quality of Life - Development Economics Series | Academy 4 ...

The Human Development Index, or HDI, is a composite measurement indicating the average wellbeing of all people in a given country.

**Think Further Questions:
1. Why were these three specific dimensions selected to be indicators of human development? If you were in Haq’s position, what dimensions would have you selected, and why?
2. What other potential conclusions can you draw from analyzing any given country’s HDI compared to its GDP?
3. Why do you think the international community historically has valued the GDP over HDI? In what ways is the HDI more important than the GDP, and vice versa?

Wow! Thanks so much!! This made my school assignment so much clearer. I feel like I finally understand HDI. Doing extra research on it right now, not even for school lol. Much more comprehensive assessment of a country’s development. Kudos to whoever put this together lol; now I know what “per Capita” means hahaha.

I think the parameter of GDP (PPP) divided by the population is the most contentious one. The other two parameters of Health and Education is more or less accepted.
