Paris 2024: Athletes fall ill after swimming in River Seine, forced to withdraw | #yahooaustralia

Claire Michel competed in the women’s triathlon last week and is now “unfortunately ill”.

The Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee did not reveal Michel’s illness, however, concerns have been raised over the River Seine’s water quality. According to AP, water quality tests done on the day of the individual triathlon race showed “very good” bacteria levels.

Swiss officials announced that one of their triathletes who also swam in the Seine “fell ill with a stomach infection”, but stated it was “impossible” to know if it was linked to the swim.

Didn't know Paris held a sewage swimming event in its Olympic competition. Worst ever Olympic held to date!

This was an event that should've been CANCELLED due to inadequate preparation. At the very least, move it to French Polynesian like they did for surfing.
