The cardboard beds have been a huge point of contention for the athletes in Paris, with many stating they’re too hard and not conducive to a good night’s sleep.

Italian swimming champion Thomas Ceccon won gold in the 100m backstroke, but had previously complained about the conditions in the village after he failed to make the 200m breaststroke final.

The 23-year-old told The Sun “There is no air-conditioning in the village. It’s hot, the food is bad. Many athletes move for this reason. It’s not an excuse, it’s the reality of what perhaps not everybody knows. I’m disappointed that I didn’t make the final, but I was too tired. It’s hard to sleep both at night and in the afternoon… I really struggle between the heat and the noise.”

What do you think?

France has embarrassed itself on a global scale in these Olympics

I cannot understand how you can knowingly host top athletes and then offer them bad food. If you have special demands on your body, start by feeding it properly

Not giving the world’s best athletes good accommodations so that they can be adequately prepared for the Olympics is pretty messed up

Literally, they should never be allowed to host the Olympics ever again. They have embarrassed themselves and disrespected these athletes.

$8.2 billion was the funding to Paris for these Olympics and this is all the better they could do?? This has been so shameful.

Paris - so shameful. To not house, bed and feed the world's best athletes in one of the most, if not, the most important competitions of their lives is truly shameful! 🤨😡👎🏻 Truly one of the worst Olympics, if not the worst Olympics ever for athletes! How could you make these poor athletes sleep on those horrible beds And not have air conditioning in the sweltering heat that Paris is experiencing right now? And the horrible food. Athletes need to feed their bodies in order to compete at optimum levels. I feel like Paris should be held financially accountable somehow. They should have never been awarded the Olympics and I hope for future cities, that they will be brought up to a certain standard of livability, housing and quality of cuisine!

Paris for an Olympic location has been failure, after failure. How did the IOC approve this with no A/C for the athletes?? Unbelievable.

I’m glad the world is realizing just how terrible Paris is, it’s this shitty, dirty, and sometimes dangerous city that’s been glamorized for way too long

France should win the award for the least hospitable country in the world.

This is absolutely a disgrace to see an Olympic athlete in this state, let alone a gold medlist

It's almost like they want all the other countries' athletes to be too tired and sore to win. Weird.

I think Paris will go down in history as the worst Olympic host ever.
