My compressor was spinning in the wrong direction. Today I learn how to wire a Compressor Motor and how to read a Motor Wiring Diagram.

Spinning the right direction is a good thing, I can relate to wiring woes.I think you should turn the whole thing 180 degrees so the flywheel is against the wall for a little added safety, pretty easy for some one to put a hand in the belt.

I responded to Sculpin way back when he first mentioned it, really good to see you make sure it is right Dave. The double check is always worth it 👍

Great job. Yes, those wiring diagrams are at first confusing, but once you realize that each wire is labeled, it all makes sense. When you make your bracket to the wall for stabilization, be sure to use a rubber isolator there as well, so vibration will not travel into the wall. A universal muffler hanger works well for that. I agree, a guard for the belts and pulleys is needed, as compressors turn on without warning, but with all your new equipment and fabrication skills, that should be easy for you.

As Joe mentioned, the flywheel fan is Always supposed to blow across the after-cooler & pump housing fins for maximum cooling. Of course the oil pump needs to pump in a certain direction as you mentioned. Even a dipper type (splash-lube) needs to "bounce" oil off of specific internal areas to properly lube the parts. Spinning the pump backwards makes oil bounce different than the engineer designed it to bounce. Another YT fellow learned the hard way building a compressor/tank & controls (look for a gold-painted V-twin pump) was running it bass-ackward🤪 got slow & low air pressure build up. I was yelling that it's flywheel fan was running backwards. He was to proud to show a follow-up video admitting he goofed & burnt up his pump. I respect you for revealing your boo-boo & showing what you did to correct the problem, Thanks!

Dave... if you go back to the video where you first ran it you'll see I mentioned checking rotation because I noticed the fan blades were'nt blowing air across the fins and to look for an arrow...glad you found out before something happened....also you were lucky too because if you dont discharge those capacitors you can get knocked on your butt...glad it worked out....

Great save Dave!!!! It’s really looking awesome and now I’m looking forward to seeing the future projects you’ll be tackling!!! Keep up the awesome content and I’ll see you in the next video!!!!

Beautiful fix, always check to see if air is blowing towards the pump, and also does it fill up the tank faster. That's thr only thing I think you will need if you are going to use air tools with high air demand

I might have missed it, but I never saw you install the tank drain. Don't forget to drain it often. They can build up a lot of water in the bottom of the tank rusting it out.

Awesome Dave!! It'll be a good one!!

That's easy, just swap T5 and T9 and you're done. It already has the right pairing for the higher current, three phase is even easier, you just swap two of the feed legs. Nice save!

Hey Dave. HEADS If you are going to do any work on it, you must turn the wheel and everything to the other side. I can see someone getting an arm taken off when they trip and fall into your compressor. Or make a guard around the belt and wheel. Good job. Thanks for sharing.🍁👍👍😏

Nice catch, should help with cooling air flow as well.

I wonder how many years it ran in the wrong direction . As you hadn't changed the orientation when you moved the motor to the top of the tank. And it still runs fine.

Even the youtube experts make mistakes bud, good job in fixing it.

Is that a John Wood mk7811? If so I think I have the one as you do. And I flipped mine around the exact same way as you did because I think it looks better that way. Weird thing is is I found your video after looking how to reverse the compressor motor since I did so

For future reference if the compressor pulley doesn’t have a rotational arrow you always want the fins on the pulley to blow towards compressor

Also put some tape around your wire nuts and wire, the vibration from the compressor has a tendency to vibrate them loose

The arrow on the compressor pulley, is that the turning direction or the wind direction

Can't find the T9 wire. What wires would it be joining to?

Great catch are you going to make a guard for belts and pullys
