Intermittent Fasting Studies:

Preclinical studies consistently show the robust disease-modifying efficacy of intermittent fasting in animal models on a wide range of chronic disorders, including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancers, and neurodegenerative brain diseases.3,7-10 Periodic flipping of the metabolic switch not only provides the ketones that are necessary to fuel cells during the fasting period but also elicits highly orchestrated systemic and cellular responses that carry over into the fed state to bolster mental and physical performance, as well as disease resistance.11,12

Intermittent Fasting in Cardiovascular Disorders—An Overview Discusses the pro and some cons to IF.

Calorie restriction (CR) extends lifespan and has been shown to reduce age-related diseases including cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases in experimental models. Recent translational studies have tested the potential of CR or CR mimetics as adjuvant therapies to enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and novel immunotherapies. Chronic CR is challenging to employ in cancer patients, and therefore intermittent fasting, CR mimetic drugs, or alternative diets (such as a ketogenic diet), may be more suitable. Intermittent fasting has been shown to enhance treatment with both chemotherapy and radiation therapy. CR and fasting elicit different responses in normal and cancer cells, and reduce certain side effects of cytotoxic therapy. Findings from preclinical studies of CR mimetic drugs and other dietary interventions, such as the ketogenic diet, are promising for improving the efficacy of anticancer therapies and reducing the side effects of cytotoxic treatments. Current and future clinical studies will inform on which cancers, and at which stage of the cancer process, CR, fasting, or CR mimetic regimens will prove most effective.

I am currently doing the 5 day fasting. I am doing intermittent fasting for about 6 months. I think I lost about 45kg. That is about 99 pounds. Dr Mindy do not ever stop with your videos and good advice. You are a life saver.

Just started on August 21st weighed 317 pounds. It is currently August 26th and I'm down to 304 pounds. I've got a long way to go but it's a start 🙂

I love the 20 hour fast! I am down almost 40 pounds. Size 12/14 to a size 6/8. I am 67 and feel awesome. My 80 year old uncle asked me where the fountain of youth is because I obviously have found it😉

Its 6am. My last meal was 1230 pm yesterday. Not even hungry. Best part: first time I woke up without stabbing pain on back & hips in 4 yrs, I even forgot to use my cane going to the bathroom. This feels like God himself touched me while sleeping! Woohoo🎉🎉🎉 (oh yes and lost 1.5 kgs as added bonus) Thank you thank you Dr Pelz 🙏🙏🙏🙏

On my 30th day of OMAD sometimes I water fast beyond 24 hours. Longest was 70 hours. I was wearing size 12-14 clothes and now I am wearing 8-10. Thank you Dr. Mindy and Dr. Jason Fung.

Joining you! I’ve been doing 15-20 hour fasting and at first, my body did not want to let go of any weight. While sitting in the sun to grab some much needed natural Vitamin D, I was mulling over what I was “doing wrong.” I was feeling really discouraged but I then it occurred to me. My knees and hips weren’t hurting when climbing stairs and my plantar fasciitis was almost completely gone. My body needed to heal. It was doing what my body NEEDED before it could get to the things I wanted! I now have a new sense of excitement to see where I go from here. Thank you, Dr. Mindy! 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Did my one week weigh in, after 20:4 IF. I've lost 8 pounds and feel great! Not gonna lie, it freaked me out, but I feel great, so I'm assuming it's all good! Also walked 40- 50 minutes a day last week! Making better nutritional choices too.

grateful for helping me, week four on the 20 hr. I do it 4 days a week eat clean and exercise lost 10lbs . I'm a former paratrooper so the discipline is their to be consistent and learn from you. thankyou for putting me on this journey.

I joined the fast training this week. I am new here and have never done IF before. I did it! Today was day five and my day went a little off track with client meetings, so by the time I got home I was at 22 hours fasting. I decided to challenge myself to go another 2 hours so I finished the week with a 24 hour fast. I’m 53 years old, overweight (5’6” and 204 lbs), and on high blood pressure meds. I’m down 3 lbs this week and am so motivated to continue this journey. My goal is 130 lbs and to be off my meds. Thank you Dr. Mindy for your motivational and informative videos. 🙏🏻

Hi Dr. Mindy, I am from the Philippines Thank you so much, you saved my life. I have lost almost 65 lbs by following your videos and about 18 lbs more to reach my ideal weight. I am now doing a 5 days fasting. Because of you I have never felt better, was diagnosed with heart failure just last July 2021, and thought that I will die. I am on day 4 of the 5-day fast and I feel wonderful! My size 22 pants were loose yesterday so I knew I would be in my 18s today! Feeling wonderful, I may continue doing this particular fast indefinitely, but I think I want to give OMAD a try. I'm 59, highest weight at start of 2021 was 320. Did a little fasting thru 21 but not consistently, then I binged on garbage from Thanksgiving to New Years. Ended up at 301 when I got serious on fasting after finding a couple good sources including Dr. Mindy! I did 6:18 intermittent fasting and then a 3-day fast in week 2. Dropped to 288! I'm hooked! Thank you for finally giving me what I truly believe is the key to finally dropping my excess forever! I'm very content eating much less, and my binging addiction seems to have left me...miraculous!!! The less I focus on food, the less temptation there is....who'da thought! :)

Thank you! 55M/retired military/ex-smoker/286 lbs at my highest point earlier this year. Quit cigarettes 1.5 years ago and the weight went up. Started this August with 16/8, then 18/6, now 20/4. Did a 24-hour fast three days ago. 17 days in doing IF & I am down 12.2 lbs already (262 lbs now). I also changed what I eat during my "feeding window". Whole potatoes in olive oil, boiled eggs, more baby spinach and baby carrots, more veggie powder mixers in apple juice. Occasional Coke Zero...maybe one every other day. Black coffee in the AM. Bottom line, you gonna "want it" and watch videos like yours to help with motivation. Lastly, I made a simple Excel spreadsheet to track my weight and weigh myself every morning. Got a long road ahead -- but, Rome wasn't built in a day. Thank you again
