Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and left the country, according to local media reports. It followed renewed protests on August 4, 2024 that left nearly 100 people dead and hundreds more injured. Demonstrators demanded Hasina's resignation after controversial quotas for civil service jobs were reinstated in June. Hasina had offered to talk to the student leaders. The country’s army chief said that it would form an interim government, but it’s not clear who will head it.

The first protest to abolish the quota sounds okay, but this latest one forcing her to resign sound fishy especially with the quick military intervention. Now that she's gone, the real fight for power is starting.

I visited Bangladesh in May 2023. Never thought that this situation would come. The Bangladeshi youths are very brave. I wish we also had the same courage to fight against these corrupt politicial parties here in Nepal. Rest in peace to deceased warriors.

when indonesia still in the dark ages with rampant corruption and the jobs still limited and most of them just on the agricultural sectors, students dream about working in the government office. but nowadays with less corrupt government and so many tech companies and high tech factories being here, the gov jobs aren’t that favorable anymore by fresh grads. i think with more managed government and being easy on investments both local and foreign, it can ends this disparity on the bangladesh too

Sheikh Hasina may have done quite some mistakes in handling the situation, but we can't forget what she has done to this country. From building the padma bridge which the world bank refused to provide budget for to metro rails and many other developments.

The question still stands who will be the next government who can handle this level of developments cause as a native i know very well there is none other political parties this strong

May the people of Bangladesh actions today may not result to putting their country in a much worse situation. Hasina and Marcos Sr. of the Philippines has almost the same fate.

Marcos Sr. of Philippines built many first's in the Philippines, he was also accused of so many mistakes and was overthrown by a nationwide protest, later on, the leadership and government that replaced him did so much worse. it took PH atleast 20-30 years to recover the momentum.

Hasina also i think have done so many first's in Bangladesh, you already have a Nuclear Power Plant there which many countries still wish to have. Her leadership may have some issues, but what and whose leadership hasnt? But what's done is done and may the people of Bangladesh be wise enough to put someone who would bring real change and not make the situation worse.

Democracy doesn't work well in South Asia. Financial crisis in Sri Lanka, political uncertainties in Nepal, military interference in Bangladesh and Pakistan plus poverty, unemployment, corruption, caste, separatism in India
