As Moscow continues to press its war of attrition along Ukraine’s eastern border, ammunition is in constant demand. After Russia's full scale invasion, Kyiv's European allies stepped up production but arms manufacturers are struggling to keep Ukraine's army supplied. Now, German arms company Rheinmetall is building a new factory and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Danish prime minister Mette Fredriksen are lending their full support.

For some analysis, we talk to Gustav Gressel. He's with the European Council on Foreign Relations in Berlin.

I'm glad Europe is stepping it up their security. Europe should not depend on in any other country for anything. Not gas, not security, and not good and services.

Giving Ukraine everything it needs to win this war and Ukrainian integration into NATO and the EU is the West’s best self defense.

"Unfortunately they (EU) have wasted 2 years just looking at things"

We should unite the production, there are countries that can't produce on their own.

For ourselves and 🇺🇦 I support this view Europe needs to wake up and boost their defence industries. As a 🇬🇧 citizen we need to improve our military capabilities to protect ourselves and Europe!!!

People don't stop because they despair. people stopped walking because they had “given up” on crawling out of despair.

Europe should be able to protect by itself. Dependency to USA should be limited asap. Trump is coming and we Europeans should find alternatives

Better late than never.

As an American, I am glad to have Europe as our friends and partners. Right now, the few/elite weapon systems still have the edge over the numerous/cheap weapon systems but the pendulum has begun steadily swinging back toward the numerous/cheap. America's relative martial edge will continue to shrink as our military continues to get stretched thinner by the day. Thus, a day will come where America will needs its friends and allies to survive and I hope they can depend upon us as well. We MUST prepare for the day when we will only be able to remain safe if we help keep both each other and ourselves safe together. Mark my words, that day will come. Strong friendships make a strong future.

Does it include Germany starting to buy equipment from its European partners as well? Or is that still too much to ask?
