Louisiana! Named after King Louis XIV of France. This state is best known for its Mardi Gras and Jazz Music- as well as its beautiful blend of Creole and Cajun cultures. If you like interesting food and friendly people, you’d love it here. Although, this place is in the deep south, so there are lots of issues with health, poverty and crime. While a lot of this state is really neat, the fact is, lots of places here are in a bad place right now.

We’ve looked at a wide range of data, including crime rates, unemployment rates, poverty, education and more. I was Welcomed by the American People with open arms at the beginning of 1979 as a Vietnamese Refugee. The first place I lived was Orange County CA because the Family sponsored me live there. Only about two weeks later I got a job, the first check I bought a bicycle to go to work without having guarantor to drive me because they took care of me too much a really. After a few years I realize that if I was still live in CA I don’t have life better because I didn’t have a degree or a professional career especially I didn’t know ENGLISH. That is why I have been in Baton Rouge from 1984 to now, and I am proud of myself to have “never” depended on Government “money” since arriving in the DREAMLAND of so many people around the world want to. I was born and raised in Opelousas. I left for the Army at age 19 with no intentions on moving back. I do visit once or twice a year though. It breaks my heart each time.

I have an uncle who was born in Crowley but has lived in Lake Charles since the 1950's. My father grew up in Kaplan, just south of Crowley. He moved to Maryland after he got out of the Air Force and married my Mom. I used to love going there as a kid. It just seemed like a cool small town to me. My relatives used to say cajuns lived south of I-10. Those north of I-10 were rednecks!

Yea! You didn't mention my town! I have lived here all of my 74 years! We built this 1800 sq foot Ranch home when we were only 24 and 25! 1973, and still in it. We raised our 3 children here. Great town, on Bayou Lafourche. Close to Port Fourchon.

I'm born and raised in New Orleans, lived in Texas since Hurricane Katrina 🌀 and just moved back home to New Orleans about 5 years ago. I was culture shocked moving back home as I was culture shocked when displaced after Katrina. I've about settled in now, but the crime is quite different than it was before Katrina. It's super uneasy and I don't fell super safe like I did growing up in New Orleans as a child and before Hurricane Katrina. Still I love my city, but I like the Northshore better. More peaceful and a lot less crime to deal with. Be safe y'all 🙏🏾

You are right about most of everything you said. Things have gotten really bad. One thing about Louisiana, the people are very friendly compared to other states.

Not to mention Lousiana gets some of the worst thunderstorms and tornados. A lot of homes are destroyed and most times people become homeless pretty quickly.

I am from Jonesboro Louisiana and I live in Houston tx. I love that boot. Louisiana is suffer from social cancer. When it had a chance to grow those in control wouldn't let it grow. Now when you think of Louisiana all you you can think of is Cajun food and Mardi gras. Well let me burst you bubble . Half the food you eating I nola is creole and soul food and the rice and gumbo is a buntu dish from west Africa. The native fished the swamp in piroes (boat) gathering wild rice and crawfish. And the sausage was brought by the Germans and the Italians. Most of the spicy dishes was brought by the creoles from the Caribbean
See LOUISIANA might look broke but the money just states in a few hands. LOUISIANA per square mile has more more natural resources to than Texas, Alaska, and California. Check the coal reserves, nature gas, salt, oil, rice farming, poultry, cattle, hogs, fish, seafood, lumber/timber/paper . There is no reason for Louisiana to be in the shape she's in. Also look at of position in the country . No excuse.

Although I moved from Louisiana I have a love/hate relationship with it. It’s like this:
There’s great people there; many who have unbreakable spirits.
There’s always someone willing to help out and show you how to do whatever you’re trying to accomplish.
There’s flavorful foods. There’s so many beautifully attractive people there.
Still, there’s not much opportunity and some of the mentality is nearly half a century behind.
There’s a saying:
Learn your craft in Louisiana then move to make your money.

Born and raised in La. and moved to Atlanta in 1993. Very eye opening. Louisiana was once an oil rich state and have nothing to show for it. The schools, roads, infrastructure, and crime have gotten worse. I love going home to visit but can’t spend no more than 3 days in town. How can an oil rich state be so poor?

Bogalusa, Louisiana - home of Studio in the Country - where all kinds of gold and platinum records were cut by the likes of everyone from Stevie Wonder to Kansas, from Louis Prima to Willie Nelson, and the list goes on and on... the south is a mysterious place that way.
