I grew up in New Orleans, have lived other places around the country and now back home for 30 years. Louisiana and New Orleans have problems yet the people are happy for the most part. Cost of living is low, people are friendly, and the culture is everything. Everywhere else I lived felt sterile and boring in comparison. We’re ok with people not wanting to come here - we don’t want to be Florida.

I lived in Louisiana for 4 years. This is a fairly accurate list. I will say though, that for the most part, people in Louisiana were some of the friendliest I ever met.

Cajun born and raised . Been here my whole life. I will tell you this. The politics are as corrupt as can be . Majority of the crime is in the big cities like Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Jobs are not plentiful outside the big cities. Poverty is getting worse here. On a positive note. At least where I’m from which is below New Orleans around the Houma, Thibodaux and along Hwy 1 south you won’t find friendlier folks. Yep you may not understand that thick Cajun accent but they will open their home to you and you will not leave their home hungry . When a disaster strikes ( Hurricanes and floods) within a day you will have an army of good folks setting up a jambalaya pot and all the fixings to feed those affected and in need. And this is just from locals doing this on there own dime or small local business owners. Neighbor will help neighbors because we all know the struggle. One thing that hurts is that when a hurricane hits us is all the talk about “poor New Orleans’ it’s as though no other cities exist in Louisiana. Hurricane Ida did devastating damage to our area and there are still repairs being made almost 2 yrs later . Some peoples lives will never be the same. There is huge room for improvement here and change. But the people are genuine and good hearted. Even the poorest among us.

I moved back to Louisiana after living in Boston for 20+ years.
It was the right choice for me.
The main thing I think you totally failed to mention is that Louisiana in general and New Orleans specifically have a rich history. New Orleans was the cultural capital in the 19th century. It was considered the northern most Caribbean city. A total cultural melting pot. Antoine’s restaurant, for example, could seat 1200 people in its lavish dining rooms. It STILL serves many of the same dishes that were served in 1860. There is an amazing and discrete sophistication there that most cities in the United States can
only dream of having.

You are spot on about the roads.. In England they drive on the left, in Louisiana we drive on what's left

Imagine moving somewhere and expecting the locals to change for you and your ideologies as an outsider. The sense of entitlement with that is weird to me.

Born and raised in New Orleans and I find it so funny that Louisiana is always competing with Mississippi for last place in reading and writing(as well as everything else), but we have produced/been home to some of the countries greatest authors. Have to get this state back on track

I live one state over in Texas. People on your survey must’ve never been there.
Louisiana has great food, culture, lots of things to do. Lafayette and the Covington/Mandeville areas would be my choice of places to live.
New Orleans is great to visit, walk around the French Quarter, eat good food, check out all the old houses and buildings, people watch. Lake Charles has beautiful full fledged resort casinos, great even for non- gamblers.
Louisiana has its own culture and history, there’s no lack of culture where would anyone that’s been there think that?
Lack of infrastructure- Louisiana like many states suffers from this, although they have been steadily working on improvements such as repaving their interstates. Perhaps if the federal government wasn’t busy funding wars and other nonsense they could step in and fix up U.S. highways and interstates.

I’m from NC, had a friend from Louisiana. He invited me to come with him on a week long trip to visit his old friends in Lafayette. The climate was almost like the climate her in NC, hot and humid, only real difference was that everything was flat…no hills anywhere. The people were extremely friendly and the food was awesome. I haven’t been back, but I want to see more of Louisiana.

We moved to Louisiana last year. We bought a home on 6 acres for a modest price. The weather is amazing. We don’t flood and the bugs aren’t bad. The Cajuns are possibly the nicest people on earth! The culture, food, hunting, fishing, and the people! I’ve left a million great things about LA out. The NoLa Mayor is a voodo witch so we don’t frequent NoLa too often. We absolutely love it here and wished we would have moved here before the housing market spiked.

Born and raised in NoLa(1980); left soon after Hurricane Katrina. Everything you said in this video is true. I could never imagine living there full-time again. The only thing I miss is the Culture: the food, the music, the festivals, and the people can be amazingly welcoming if they are not trying to murder you.

It’s difficult to define life in Louisiana. It is unique.
The underlying tone may be that here in Louisiana, we work to live. We don’t live to work. How many places can you say that about?

I have lived in Louisiana all my life and traveled all over while in the Navy for over 30 years. Louisiana still has the best food, beautiful scenery, especially in South Louisiana, friendliest people and great Cajun and Creole music, including New Orleans Jazz, and South Louisiana “Swamp Pop” music. Visit Lafayette, LA sometime and note 100% difference between New Orleans and Lafayette.

I found this video quite humorous for several reasons because I decided to move from Oregon to Louisiana in Feb 2023 and have to say I absolutely love it here

Culture in New Orleans is definitely unique. It's unlike anywhere in the US. It has this aesthetic European charm due to its french heritage. You have tons of art galleries in the French Quarter. What I love about is that it has preserved this small town feeling and is very walkable downtown. As opposed to Austin Texas(where I live btw) which used to be like that, has lost its charm and is becoming a big metropolis full of skyscrapers.

I'm one of those crazy people who moved to Louisiana about 10 years ago. There are some difficulties about living here but I actually like the culture.

This is hilarious! Y'all don't know what your missing!! Louisiana is an experience in itself, almost a privilege to experience and be a part of. Don't let a survey or a few opinions make you miss out on!
