In this video, you’ll learn exactly what beat and rhythm are in music. These topics are covered at a beginner level, and applied in Ableton Live. Use any DAW to follow along.

00:00 Intro
00:28 What Is Beat?
01:16 What Is Tempo?
02:06 What Is Rhythm?
03:51 Rhythm In Ableton Live

First, you learn about the beat in music. Then, you’ll analyze what 'measures' are in music and how they relate to the beat.

Next, you’ll learn about tempo and how it relates to music within the digital audio workstation. You'll apply this information using the tap tempo function and tempo map.

Learning about beat, measures, and tempo creates a solid foundation when learning about rhythm.

You’ll learn about the whole note, half note, quarter note, eighth note, and sixteenth note. To apply this, you'll make a four bar loop using the synthesizer Lethal.

What other questions about rhythm do you have?

When he said pie, I really felt that.

"What's up, I'm Anthony and this is a pie." For a few minutes I thought the pie wasn't going to be referenced again haha. Great video! As a self-taught musician and songwriter that knows nothing about theory, it's nice to learn some terms to use so I can stop pointing at a screen and saying "put that one over there!" and pissing off producers/engineers. Thanks!

"The internet is great because you can watch me over and over again" Must be the most narcissistic thing i have ever heard, and i can totally relate. 11/10 video

This video made me understand a very confusing topic for me ever since. Now, you made me more interested in music and how it's created.

Awesome....in a quick 7 minute video you presented a lot of information in a very easy to understand way. Good job!

That was a very good visual/audio demonstration. The metronome in the background with its distinct sound for the first beat of each measure such that it sounded out tick, tack, tack, tack was fabulous when combined with the visual display in your DAW.
