Most electricians make videos and dont realize that building code is different from place to place. What you consider rubbish or weird might just be up to code elsewhere. I live in nyc and have yet to see an electrical video or plumbing thats up to nyc code online.

How is twisting something together not a mechanical connection? Is a knot tying two ropes not a mechanical connection? Is it a magnetic connection?

Unless you're soldering joints like the old days your connection is mechanical.

This is just adding another circuit in parallel. Never seen that component myself, but I doubt any issue would arise from using this. Maybe a slight voltage drop, that's it

This connection is way better quality than a chocolate block *and* there no break in the main wire which means the voltage drop on the continuing wire will be less than even a wago or wire nut, never mind those connector blocks that UK electricians think are just fine to leave in house wiring.

Twisting gives the assuring feeling it will be a strong connection or use a wire nut or a wego

The ideal way would be to cut the wire and use a triple slot WAGO lever connector then put your joint in an electrical box, it would be secure and you would have your splice
