Wow, it actually solved it! It takes less then 10 seconds for passwords less then 5 characters but once you get to like 10-20+ characters then it seems to take like 20-30 mins but that's totally fine. If I wanted it to go faster, I would just dedicate more resources to it! Loved the video, random question. How would one find out what type of encryption is being used when given a random hashing string?

I downloaded kali linux and john the ripper in a zip folder. Should I extract john the ripper into it's own folder and path or does it have to be in a certain folder for kali to find it with the command ls? As well, do I have to install git? I'm a total noob with an encrypted pdf I need to recover the password for, but this is new to me so I don't know what steps I need to take to get to the point that I can do what you did in the video.
