Read: Do Christians Pick and Choose Which Rules They Want to Follow?

Why does it seem like Christians favor some Old Testament laws yet reject others? Is this just an example of selective reasoning? Are Christians trying to avoid the unreasonable Old Testament laws to avoid exposing their unreasonable nature? Detective Jimmy Wallace (J. Warner’s son) tackles these questions as part of his Incarnate Investigation Video Series.

This is a real important question to answer as I'm sure it is confusing to many people, especially new believers and non believers. I read a book called Concise Theology once, and it really helped me understand the essentials of the faith.

Excellent answer. Here is the sentence given at the council in Acts 15:

Wherefore my sentence is, that we *trouble not them* (concerning circumcision and keeping the Mosaic Law), which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: but that we write unto them, that they *abstain from pollutions of idols, * and from *fornication, * and *from things strangled, * and from *blood.* For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
Acts 15:19‭-‬21

Even this sentence seems to be slightly modified in the future since Paul says it is ok to eat meat offered to idols in his epistles.

The confusion for outsiders is understandable. They repeat what they've heard. A purely cursory reading of the Bible, let alone isolated passages (quote mining?) does not do it justice. We American's are not the most critical thinkers, and most folks scoff at the outset, or worse yet, are simply cynics. Besides, if I believe that Christianity is stupid, then I have a good excuse for not believing it — and then I am "free" to live by my own rules. Most are not seeking truth, they are seeking excuses or loopholes, they seek to antagonize — and the cultural mantra and the lives of professing "Christians" generally provide all the excuses/ammunition that those who aren't seeking actual understanding that they could wish for. It takes some doing to break past the resistance of the human heart and get people to consider the actual arguments. And at the end of the day, the moral questions are inescapable. So, which worldview has the best, most meaningful, consistent, non-arbitrary answers to such questions? Discovering that requires some serious study and critical thinking!

I really like getting to know Jimmy better. He doesn't sound like his dad, but his vocal pauses and other nuances do resemble him a lot. I'm grateful that he saw for himself that Christianity is True. My children have not had that epiphany.

Why Do Christians Pick and Choose the Rules They Follow? Because we are sinners. No one is perfect, least of all the scold(Church Lady). Ask yourself are you a church lady?
