A man in my life with whom I share a strong attraction is the son of English expats, and it shows in his accent. His parents have soft, gentle accents. So his Aussie accent has similar qualities. All he has to do is talk to me, and I melt. Talk about diamonds in my ear.

The Aussie accent is a growing thing, we pick up it up from people from different countries. For instance there's cultured, general and broad accents just to name a few.

Your family can definitely influence the Aussie accent that you have. My parents were older Aussies with a slightly more English way of speaking. I'm the youngest of 8 kids, with 6 girls, 2 boys, and one set of twins. No, we're not Catholic. Mum had issues with medication affecting her twice as much as other people. The doctor advised her not to take the pill, and dad refused to do anything. So I was mum's little surprise package. She was a 44 year old grandma when I was born. There was a 23-year age gap between my eldest sister and I. She was a 40s teenager, and dad was about a decade older than her. My general Aussie accent is a bit more formal than some. I can't say, "How ya goin'?" and run the words together. I'm starting another comment.

As an Aussie i would say some of how the Aboriginals spoke english, not 1st gen speakers but probably late end of 19th century had some influence in tone and linguistics, regarding the broad end of the accent. if you watch Screen Australia videos on YT, there's one that has an interview of young teens out at mt Druitt ( western Sydney ) in the 1960s and they all talk with the broad westie accent. But over the last 30 years that very western Sydney broad accent has changed. the lebanese / middle east migrants, their children have a very strong mix of their native tongue and that broad accent.
Dare i say Muslim Bogans, certainly not meant as an insult but rather a compliment that this newer broad variant sounds so distinctly Aussie it warms my heart.
