Steve Marriott……The True Mod Father. NOT Forgetting The BEAUTIFUL Miss.PP Arnold.✌🏻🤗

For 1967 this was kick ass & a way ahead of their time. Underrated.

"Tin Soldier" was like a glimpse into the future. If you wanted to know where rock music was headed in the late 60s and early 70s it is pretty much all here. Steve Marriott was one of the first to show how a very special sort of performer could deliver a powerful vocal over a very heavy guitar sound.

One of the greatest songs of all time. The incredible PP Arnold on co-vocals there too.

Probably my favourite band of all time. Steve Marriott is the greatest male vocalist the uk has ever produced in my humble opinion. Their album Ogdens Nutgone Flake is an absolute classic - stand out track is Afterglow.

You don’t need to listen to anyone else after watching and listening to Steve Marriott.

The genre of music (late 60s) was called 'psychedelic rock'. The Small Faces were formed in London in about 1965, and Steve Marriott had a breathtaking voice and a stage presence to match. Tragically, Marriott died in his sleep when a fire, caused by a cigarette, swept through his home in Essex, England, in 1991.
Chris Clements, who played with Marriott, said this about him:
"One particular memory sticks in my mind. When we rehearsed with him, he almost spoke the words of the song, rather than sang the words. He was listening to us, making sure we got the backing right, so he didn't put himself out vocally. But when we did the first gig with him, out came this fantastic soul voice, we all looked at each other, and our mouths fell open!"
RIP, Steve - and thank you for your music.

Oh man, The Small Faces are up there with The Who as my favourite bands. So many amazing tracks to choose from, including (but not only) All or Nothing, Here Come the Nice, Itchycoo Park, Lazy Sunday, The Universal, Afterglow of Your Love, Whatcha Gonna Do About It, Song of a Baker, Happy Days Toy Town, Collibosher, Red Balloon, Wide Eyed Girl on the Wall, Wham Bam, Thank You Mam...

The Small Faces were the most underrated band, listen next to their song You Need Loving released 1966 and compare it to Led Zeppelin Whole lotta Love released in 1969

They were called the Small Faces because they were all "short" men. The two main songwriters, Steve Marriott (singer/guitarist) and Ronnie Laine (bassist/singer) recorded an album called "Majik Mijits." They were 5'4" and 5'5" respectively. Steve wanted to bring Peter Frampton into the band as a second guitarist and Ronnie said no, so he eventually left to form Humble Pie for Frampton. The Small Faces dropped the "small" when Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood joined from the Jeff Beck band and they went on to success as "The Faces." Steve had success with Humble Pie, but his life was rough financially and he met an unfortunate death in a fire supposedly caused by a cigarette. Steve Marriott was truly one of the greatest voices in music history, as you have discovered. I highly suggest a song Steve did not like all that much, but it was one of their greatest hits ... a Ronnie Laine composition called "Itchycoo Park". Tin Soldier is simply one of the best songs ever recorded. BTW - the lovely young lady singing backup is P.P. Arnold, a star in her own right in the UK and Steve's girlfriend at the time.

This and Ichycoo Park, by Small Faces. The next band with singer Steve Mariott is Humble Pie. Try 'I Don't Need No Doctor' and take off from there. Yes I was 16 in 1967. So dam LUCKY. Also Steve was one of the best front men in Rock and Roll.

Born in Feb. 1952, I grew up in the greatest era of Music; the 50s and 60s, and listed to the Small Faces along with the many, many other Bands of that time. I agree with the reviews posted....Another great song to listen to is "Itchycoo Park" ....another great classic. AND, the Album, "Ogden's Nutgone Flake", recorded Oct. 21, 1967 to Apr 3, 1968, and released on May 24, 1968 is an absolute masterpiece and a Classic of an another great song off of the that Album is "Afterglow".

Just imagine, these very young men were mis managed from the start. Before just two years, they broke up after recording 14 unforgettable songs. What would or could they have done if they remained together for twenty years! My heart goes out to steve Mariott and Ronnie Lane who both died so young in devastating circumstances. You will never be forgotten and your music will live on.
