Is apple cider vinegar a good rooting hormone / rooting agent? In this video I clone tomato plants and test to see if apple cider vinegar can help plants grow roots faster. I try multiple propagation techniques to learn what yields the fastest root growth.

If you’ve ever wanted to grow tomatoes from cuttings, clone cannabis, or create a mother plant- don’t miss out on this great garden tip. Learn how to use DIY household substances as rooting hormone! In this video I will be growing tomato plants from cuttings, but these same techniques can be used for roses, cannabis and plants of all kinds!

It's incredible we have people testing all this kind of stuff. Cheers and keep the good work!

Okay I knew right away when I was watching this video that that was way way way too much apple cider vinegar. Unless it's extremely diluted it acts as an herbicide which means it kills plants. I was actually really surprised that the cuttings even survived. I wouldn't have put more than a drop in a container that size. I'd be really curious to see the difference with that amount.

For what it's worth, I had read that you dip the steam in the vinegar solution and then move it to another bucket to sprout. Not sure if you'd have had better results though.

Thanks I was thinking of doing this as an experiment but you did it and proved my suspicions were correct

Well, if the plant was soaked in diluted apple cider vinegar for a long time, it can become the adverse effect because of the vinegars acidity.
This apple cider vinegar rooting hormone method is successfull when done in the right way... right ratio of diluting then dip the plants for a few seconds then plant it.

I think that 1.5ml is way to much for 500ml. What is the pH of the solution ?

Vinegar works as a ph down. They likely didn't root cuz it was under 5. Needed more like a 1/3 of a teaspoon.

You are supposed to just dip the cuttings in ACV then immediately put them in the water … used way too concentrated the effects are extremely strong they do not even recommend you soak it in ACV

Tomatoes can root all over the stems part of why its good to bury them all the way to the bottom branches. You can clone tomatoes without rooting hormones.

Jimmy, thanks. I am enjoying your propagation videos. It kind of makes sense as to why it didn't work. Vinegar is acidic. Just curious, can you try the opposite and test with baking soda? If it works, that is a very inexpensive, common household item.

Yo i planted some clones and they went into flower the day after and have been growing nugs for 3 days at pace faster than my flowering plants its madness
