On our honey moon we found a message in a bottle that'd washed up on the shore. The message was a letter from school kids asking us where we found the bottle, and where we were from. It asked us to mail the self-addressed stamped envelope letter back to them, so we did. After we got back home we got a letter from the school thanking us.

I'm not an expert, BUT the "golden" cannon ball shown is in reality an ammonite. An ocean dwelling creature around 140 to 200 million years ago!

I remember tar balls on the beaches in Cornwall. It was when I was a child I think it was when my age was about 10-11. I’m in my 70s. My dad got it off our feet with petrol.

When I was a teenager, I was on the beach near Bognor Regis on the south of England, and I found bits of masonry which we realised were remains of houses, just on the edge of the sand, where the waves were laping. We did some research and found out that we had identified remains of a village that had been washed out to sea. We felt quite emotional to have found houses where people had lived before the tide had taken the village.
Unfortunately, although I looked endlessly to find the remains again on numerous occasions the tide never went out far enough to see bits of masonry again. I had been alone on the beach, when I had found the masonry, and I 😮am sorry not to have had someone with me to observe the long-foregotten village that had been taken from the coast so long before.

Back in 1970 my family lived in Talafofo, Guam. Because we lived within easy walking distance of the beach we often went beach combing. We often found glass Japanese fishing balls, plastic fishing floats and lures. I also found several .30 & .50 shell casing left over from WW2. One day while beach combing we saw birds covered in an oily tar like substance. Plus globs of a tar like substance on the beach. We reported our find to the authorities, but I don't remember what they did about it.
