A friend of mine with naturally straight hair was ASTOUNDED when she learned on a trip we took to celebrate high school graduation (2011) that I didn't brush my hair twice a day like she did. She made a huge deal about it and was starting to imply that I was gross for not brushing it. She couldn't accept that different hair types require different care. So before I got in the shower one night, I brushed my hair on one side to show her a before and after of what brushing does to curls. then I washed it and producted it, and our next confrontation was about how I didn't wash my hair every day. 🙄 I tried to tell her about the hydration, hair physics, and scalpoils. Even tried letting her know that washing her thin fine hair up to 3 times a day was wrecking her hair, but it's 2023 now and she still looks bald in a ponytail 🤷‍♀️

My grandma took me to her hair stylist and immediately the hairdresser said

“Do you always straighten it or do you keep your natural curls”

I had my hair straightened at that moment and my grandma said “what? Her hairs straight” I then had to explain to my grandma that my hair is naturally curly but it also answered the question to the stylist.

But my grandma for some reason couldn’t wrap her head around me not keeping it natural and I showed her some pictures of it naturally and told her that I’ve become extremely good and fast at straightening my hair, having it natural takes way more time, a lot more products ect just making sure it doesn’t become giant and poofy, and my grandma then said “just brush it” the hairstyle, myself and the other employees went quiet and the stylist said “I’m sorry mrs but that’s a horrible idea” her and I then had to explain in great detail then my stylist showed pictures of her granddaughter because she had curly hair and she showed a before and after. My grandma never suggested that again
