What do you think about Old vs Modern SpongeBob?

SpongeBob’s downfall truly needs to be studied.

SpongeBob himself went from being mostly optimistic and naïve but can have a back bone in situations, to being a literal baby

Patrick went from being dumb but lovable (and can actually be smart at times), to being just dumb and in some cases unlikeable in episodes such as Your Mine and Mine and Stuck in the Wrangle

Squidward went from being grumpy and sarcastic while having likable moments, to ether being a angry lunatic or in most cases the show’s punching bag

Mr. Krabs went from being a greedy boss but also a father figure to SpongeBob, to being an asshole corrupted by avarice.

Plankton went from being a decent main antagonist of the show with confidence, to becoming a depressed loser.

And don’t get me started on Ms. Puff. She went from being a teacher that just wanted SpongeBob out of her class and nothing more, to a homicidal lunatic that tries to kill him.

Sad thing is that it probably will continue until one of the main cast passes on (and even then I feel like Nick would probably use A.I if the actors gives permission).

Even though Tom Kenny has been doing this for 25 years, he still loves it in the 2023 kids choice awards. He said that he’s not gonna stop doing SpongeBob. He loves playing the character and I’m proud that he still doing SpongeBob voice. and not forced to be doing it for this long

I think the main problem with SpongeBob's Modern character is that the writers mistaken SpongeBob's naivety for him being dumb, along with other things about his character ie: him being happy about things or only letting him be happy all the time and not dynamic and complex like the earlier seasons. He was actually able to be sad, mad, sarcastic and etc.

Remember when SpongeBob got fed up with Squidward taking advantage of his kindness? And in the same episode strangled Mr Krabs in a fit of rage? Could something like that even happen today?

Yes, there are times when Spongebob can be a bit too eccentric in later years. The Loud House and even the recent Fairly Odd Parents revival series know how to make their characters lovable without pushing their quirks too far.

spongebob's character was going downhill before this movie came out. He use to have a range of emotion and nuance. Now he's just over the top giddy and happy like a one dimensional mascot

I made an essay on how the Original Spongebob was one of the best characters evermade. Someone who helps others to become better people, someone who grows into a better person, someone who got to shine in the first movie when the world was against him. I still hold it high regards, but MAN!! It really gut punching when Spongebob become nothing more. I guess you could say his character arc was already completed after the first movie, but if there wasn't anything else to develop his character, then why not focus on develop other characters instead of doing nothing with them. They were going somewhere with Plankton in the Second Movie, but it doesn't really expand upon it after the movie. *At this point I'm just rambleing nonsense*

Man, SpongeBob has one of the saddest cartoon downfalls in history. I feel like the series should've ended after SpongeBob's 20th Anniversary Special. Sure, the post-movie episodes before the 20th Anniversary Special had its ups and downs, but they still produced several great episodes like "Have You Seen This Snail?", "Krusty Towers", "Friend or Foe", "Sand Castles in the Sand", "Suction Cup Symphony", "Plankton's Pet", "Mimic Madness" and "Karen's Virus" to name a few examples, but I feel like the writers seriously run out with the ideas since season 13 again. Sponge Out of Water was a great and underrated sequel, but the other two movies are forgettable. While the series had a temporary recovery since season 9b, most episodes since season 13 come off as very bland and forgettable. Not to mention that the creators try very hard with nostalgia ("Friendiversary" cough cough), which just proves that they run out of ideas. I'm also not really a fan that they mix animation styles, which wasn't really the case with old SpongeBob. And don't get me started with Narlene, I feel like she's another Chloe from Fairly OddParents, except that she's also gross aside from annoying. If anything, Nickelodeon is just a perfect representation of Mr. Krabs' greed.

7:59 SPONGEBOB MUSICAL MENTIONED!! I love the musical so much, I think part of the reason it's so good is because the actors tried to characterize in a way based on the early seasons (when it was still good)
