Introducing My Doberman to My Baby—This Worked!

This is how I'm introducing my new baby to my Doberman! I just brought home a newborn baby from the hospital (don't worry, it's my baby) and my Doberman's life has just changed forever! In this video, we talk about how to prepare your Doberman for the arrival of your new baby so it won't be such a shock to his system, letting him get the scent of the new baby, getting him used to the sights and sounds of the new baby, and then finally doing a face to face meeting with the newborn! We'll also talk about the behavior changes you're likely to see in your Doberman when you bring home a new baby to the family and what temperament changes I actually notice in my Dobermans!

As most Doberman owners know all too well, not every dog product works well for this unique breed. That's why I maintain a list of the best products I've found so far for Dobermans.

My 7th Doberman taught my baby girl to walk! Cinnamon backed up to the couch where my daughter was pulling herself up on and walking back and forth on. She finally walked to the end where Cinnamon was and put her hands on her back. Cinnamon walked real slow with my daughter holding on until they got to the middle of the living room where she let go and clapped her hands. Seems like two weeks later she was running. LOL Congratulations on your new baby.

To this day, if we are having company over or taking Moses to a new situation, we exercise him a great deal before. Dobes get so excited and don’t know their own strength. My parents are elderly and frail so getting our Dobe tired out before they come over is helpful. Otherwise, his excitement to play with grandpa and grandma may end up with one of them on the floor. In other words, exercise before a high excitement activity is a life long practice for us.

Hey John. My mother is the toughest person when it comes to asking for something, for quite some time now ive been begging for a doberman. On thursday i showed her one of your videos and now she loves dobermans. And shes always been the type to believe that dobermans are dangerous so to see her transition so rapidly is amazing. Yesterday i asked my mom for a doberman and I got a maybe. Years of trying and begging and nothing, not until you came along. I was also able to convince my brother to help me in asking, he also believed in the dangerous dog stereotypes, and only wanted a cat. My Doberman Ebony was about 2 when my younger daughter was born. There couldn't have been a more protective & alert nanny! It was like she knew the baby was coming. She would sniff my pregnant wife's belly and nuzzle her! She knew the baby when it came! People would be shocked at the sight of a toddler being shadowed by this fully grown Doberman!
My daughter Mini literally grew up under Ebony's watch. At the age of 3, my daughter could walk with Ebony on a leash.
I lost my Ebony forever at the age of 11! I miss her everyday over the past 8 yrs!

We just had our first kid last month and this video has been GOLD. I've watched it probably 12 times. Our doberman is just over a year and she's VERY protective of our infant, it's actually become a problem as she'll get aggressive with other pets or kids getting too close. She hasn't actually snapped or done anything dangerous, but I've never seen her growl or push like this and I'm unsure how to help her not feel so protective. She understands the space command, but it lasts all of 2 minutes before she's guarding our infant again.

Dogs have great intuition.. we had a 1 year old rotti when we had our daughter.. and even the the dog was super hyper.. she was always very careful and protective of our baby.

My daughter was a month old when my first Doberman came into our lives. One of my best memories ever is when my daughter was about a year old and "reading" her books to our sweet Dobie, who laid next to my daughter & stared up at her with love. It was beautiful. Congratulations to you! ❤❤❤
