You should've used the MacBook because MacBook is laptop only, and iPad is tablet only. Windows has both the features.

The most important thing about laptops for me personally is mouse support; touch screens just aren't as efficient for navigation

I have tried using an iPad Pro 10.5 as my main computer for school, but it just doesn't cut it. My Retina MacBook Pro 13" which in benchmarks is actually less powerful than my iPad, yet I am able to do much more due to macOS. There are a lot of great applications for iOS, but they are arguably watered-down versions of the desktop counterparts. File management is essential for productivity and iOS just isn't good at it due to its restrictive nature.

You really have to go all out Apple in terms of products and services to make an iPad Pro your main computer. But if you are not a student nor a person who requires a laptop or desktop outside work, you'd honestly be better of with an iPad. For everyone else, a traditional "computer" is still where its at.
