Family of Divers: please rescue them, they are so brave.
Rescuers: It will be very dangerous to recover them, they are probably dead, we might die as well.
Gov and Police: Find them in 12 hours
(Rescuer dies)
Gov and Police: lets seal this cave.
Rescuer's family: ok, understandable.

Cave diving is dangerous enough but going into a cave with a strong current (on top of the safety mistakes) almost guarantees you're not making it out.

I'm not a diver but even I'd bring more light than I need, more air than anticipated and always use a 'guide wire'. Then again, I'd never go cave diving at all. EVER. Craziness on steroids !!

These people chose to cave dive just because so if accidents happen, the families should just let them stay there as their burial and stop putting other people at risk of dying too just to retrieve the bodies.

Every cave has a syphon and you swim into the syphon, the amount of energy needed to exit will be 3-4X what it took to enter. If the syphon is strong will NEVER leave.

I visited this lake in 2019 when travelling to Athens, beautiful scenery but the cave areas towards the back looked ominous and had many signs advising swimmers to stay within the allocated space

Not bringing spare air tanks is common for relatively short and unchallenging dives? I know you're not talking about any kind of cave diving, because there's no such thing as "short and unchallenging cave dive".
That's like saying, I don't bring a backup parachute for skydiving for an unchallenging jump.
