The acoustic device just needs a rebrand as a sonic deterrent device and she'll come back.

We got rid of the AC-130 laser because it took up so much room in the back of the aircraft that it effectively cut off access to half the plane. If there was an emergency those in the front were stuck and couldn’t bail out.

Drum and bass heads raving to the acoustic device

The disappointment in Marcus's voice makes it sound like he really wanted some ears to explode lol

But seriously, what a wild device to design, especially for use on protesters

Very much doubt the laser systems were discontinued, just refocused and scaled down to where they could be "Parasitically Powered" by two jet engines for instance.

A lot of the stuff in that show was basically the army making good concepts before the tech was there.

The american military rightful deciding if its bad enough for an ac130 to be deployed you really aren't that bothered by collateral damage

The Tactical Laser was, I believe, ruled a violation of the Laws of War because the laser was not visible

Check If you put up a display of new tech to kill the enemy.... And the enemy sees it.... It ruins the surprise

The laser is actually on the new ac130 gunships, not the Spectre the new 1's, I dont recall their codename currently 😅

I just remember how wild it was to see the MP7 in the show in like 2008 and then see the MP7 like a few years later.

Well. High energy lasers are used in interceptions of missiles. Even if this programme ended many others succeeded.

Lasers are still technically in military service but are still very much in the "experimental" phase.
There has been a ton of success with using them as point-defense for navy vessels, and now smaller versions are being tested as point-defense for experimental armored land vehicles.

The big concern is power. Batteries are finnicky in that they do wear out, and batteries that can keep up with the demands of lasers that can literally melt missiles are annoying for manufacturers and taxpayers.

We are getting a few steps closer to man-portable laser weapons now, though.

Yeah sure discontinued I believe that.

The laser system got scaled down instead and is being developed into ground based counter UAS systems. The navy laser also got scaled down and are on ships as of 2020.

Developing high tech weaponry for the us military in non-wartime is kinda like throwing wet paper(?) At a wall to see what sticks

If I remember correctly, the laser was attached to a predator drone and used for setting forest fires.

"The laser meant to minimize casualties was discontinue because we hate civilian hospitals"
