If AMD is ever going to go back to making high end GPUs, a unified architecture like UDNA is the way to get there.

They were unified, then they split, now going back. It was stupid. I said it back then. Though I suppose in fairness, they probably much better learned what each really needs by splitting, so unified again should be better then ever. Growing pains

I love how some people don't consider RX 9070 XT as high end. That thing can handle even 4K pretty well, especially with FSR4 but even that is not necessary in every single game. In my eyes that is high end.

They’ll catch up and surpass Nvidia in raster it’ll be a true battle of technologies and node process. Sometimes we get stagnant generations.

I really just want an undeniable 5080 competitor.

I think this also could mean even stronger ray tracing as well

I would have purchased their last flagship had they actually had stock at the time

I hope it pans out better for them than the last days of GCN ...

Hopefully one of the best pieces of tech news ever, just have to wait

I'm waiting for a high end UDNA Strix.

Finally. Nvidia will jave proper competition again 🥳

This really has a serious, "let them eat cake" kind of energy to it that I'm not really jiving with...
That entire economic sector is more cooked than a deep fried steak. X.x

High end and amd shouldn’t be in the same sentence… amd can’t even display the image correctly half the time, why reviewers act like they can’t immediately tell the difference in visuals is beyond me. I’d rather a 3060 than a 7900xt, because it’s stable and never screen tears.

Doesn't mean shit without a decent software toolchain. They literally just need an APU with like 5800x3d and 1080ti hardware tier performance whilst focusing on getting the industry to adopt an open source GPGPU API that's a CUDA alternative or just giving money and developer time to SCALE.

Except if they make even a slightly decent card no gamer will be able to get one since they will do exactly what Nvidia is doing now.

If it can be sold to ai, then we will get nvidia style paper launch too lmao

The cards these companies call "mid range" are the high end to normal people, and their still over priced. It's startling that anyone bought a 5090 yet alone a competitor to it.

Didn't he say high end wouldn't exist because news said so? So now hes against that fake news that didn't actually show AMD saying "no high end?"

AMD never said they would never make a high end card. And their justification for merging arches back into a singular arch was because of AI. They have these businesses making AI that works with CDNA but most people are using RDNA products. And they dont translate code wise. When you look at Nvidia, they make one product that is sold as AI, Server, and Gamer. So AMD is going back to a singular architecture that can be sold for AI, Server, and Gaming. But also APU since they also have that setup going for them.

AMD will have a high end card. They fucked up with the 7900xtx when they limited themselves to 999.99. It did not work out well for them. Legit another mistake by AMD. The last time AMD didn't compete in the high end, they released Polaris, aka the RX480 which was nothing but a 390x that used less power and cost half the price. And it flopped them so hard. They basically handed Nvidia sales.

AMD needs to understand the mindset of the average consumer. When they see that nvidia has had the best top end gpu year over year over year, who cares if the 7900xtx is 999.99 and has the same performance as a 1200-1400 4080/super? they dont care, they would rather have nvidia. because if nvidia makes the fastest cards, than ALL their cards are the fastest. that is how the average consumer thinks. sure, tech nerds like myself know better. im a 1%er.

On that note if I were running AMD, I would hire a psychological profiler, the kind of person who studies the human mind and behavior, and then make sure to consult them when im selling my products. Me personally? I already know that if AMD were to sell the fastest GPU product for at least 3 generations in a row, the mindshare shift would be "AMD makes the best product" and then people start buying AMD even if its not the fastest. But AMD already owns the low to mid range price to performance wise. So making the high end would only round out their portfolio. Allowing them to profit more. And with that mindshare, their server and AI stuff will sell more too.

They should also convince Sony to start making "playstation" branded graphics cards for PC's. another mindshare mental choice for average consumers. "you mean my desktop PC can have playstation graphics? awesome" and mindshare increases. Honestly Sony should bring back the Sony VAIO line in terms of computers but shift their playstation into actual computers.... the PS4/5 is already basically a desktop system in a smaller form factor. They should just license windows, develop a playstation APP for windows, and when you boot up a playstation, like the steamdeck, it would boot into their UI and such. Allowing their playstation to be a basic computer that still plays/uses like a simple console. And those on desktop can disable the "big picture mode" for startup and simply run a basic app like steam.... that would be their best bet moving into the future. or playstation can team up with steam, giving them a huge library of games for consumers, and work with steam to make a console/pc together. steam could make desktop computers that are "all-in-one" systems, steam gains playstation for handhelds making their steamdeck better, and playstation gets steam for playstation. its a match made in heavy that would legit kill off xbox.
