Someone is definitely going to see 9070 and get it over the 5070 because bigger number must mean better.

I think they skipped the 8000 series in order to have the GPUs and CPUs be on the same generation

they tryna secure the Nvidia 9th gen rtx names

they are basically matching the cpu naming scheme
9000s for cpu
8000s for apu

At this point I realizer that AMD don't realize how important naming its product can be, both for making consumers understand what they have and where it lies

No way we're gonna get the Ryzen 4070 before GTA6

You didn't spot 2 details.
1 - 8060s is benchmarked @ 4k while 8050s @ 1440p
2 - Memory benchmark in the 8060s system is lower and those are iGPUs sharing memory with the CPUs.

Not sure why AMD went to 4 digit GPUs in the first place. RX 480 - RX 580 - RX5700XT? It should've been an RX 670, and they should've just kept going from there. We'd be talking about the RX 970 at this point.

I just want a company to keep a consistent naming scheme for 10 generations without skipping numbers or changing something. It’s not hard to do that for just the number in the name.

They changed laptop naming to match Intel and dGPU naming to match Nvidia. Apparently they don't change desktop CPU naming because that's where they're winning.

The 8060S benchmark was in 4K while the 8050S one was in 1080p. The 8050S even had a higher base boost clock

I need AMD to kick Nvidia in the nuts in the midrange.

AMD has the worst naming in the industry. Like wtf is this

I think the naming change might be to help distinguish them from their CPUs. This is already a big issue with the 7000 series where the Internet constantly confuses things like the 7900xt with the 7900x.

AMD's marketing team really does suck.

You're spot on with AMD needing to cut their pricing to achieve their goal of taking market share away from Nvidia.

The 70 on the end is more in line with what they used to do. I had a Radeon HD 7970 back in the day. Was the 7900XT of its day. Skipping the 8000 series is a little strange though, was expecting them to finish fleshing it out with an 8900XT and XTX.

Good thing they went with this naming scheme because discussing a 9700 would've been a pain in the ass for three reasons

It’s dumb. They should’ve at least waited until UDNA if they wanted to change their naming scheme

watcherofcontent

a change they didnt need to make. this switch up should've been reserved for UDNA since that'll be an actual architecture change. RDNA4 isnt
maybe its just to make this launch catch some eyes. because everything else about rdna4 is boring
