Is it worth tuning your stock car/ECU for more power or will it not make a difference?

The answer: Yes, but no, but yes. In reality, this answer does depend on the vehicle but with emissions being more of a concern and manufactures globalising their car lineups however, there is certainly room for some solid improvements in the vast majority of vehicles that roll off the factory floor.

As Andre explains in reply to this question asked during a free live EFI tuning lesson, OEM vehicle manufactures are not solely focused on the best power output, and in many cases not even the best economy, but rather the ability for the car to meet the required emissions standards and to run safely on a wide variety of fuel of varying quality that is found all over the world.

If we know that we are only going to feed the vehicle with quality, consistent fuel of the applicable octane, a tune on a stock vehicle can not only unlock more power but also better economy in the area of your map where you are at cruising RPM and load, as well as still meet your local emission standards where required for street use.

Where possible, an upgraded intake and exhaust system along with a tune are going to give you greater gains and are recommended in order to help you make the most out of your time, effort and money.

When you have cars like the FG Falcon that increase in power by 6% and get 7% more torque going from 91 to 98 (because they have really good knock detection) it does make you wonder how much is left on the table.

Alternatively if you have a diesel and are willing to sacrifice longevity... Did someone say 30%?
