I've tested several over the years.
The issue isn't that they don't work, they do, the issue is basically everything emits the same RF as a mic. So believe me, you'll go insane inside a hotel room.
It will detect the TV speakers from the TV on the other side of the wall in the next run. It will detect the fire notification system through the walls. It'll detect basically every square inch of a hotel room wall.
You'll become instantly paranoid.
