Russian President Vladimir Putin insists his country has no military alliance with China,... and has no plans on forming one.
Speaking at his annual end-of-the-year meeting with the press on Thursday,... Putin was asked about Russia's military and technical cooperation with China.
He denied there was an alliance,... saying it's the U.S. that's forming military alliances in East Asia with South Korea and Japan.
Putin said a Russian alliance with China would be "counterproductive",... but noted that despite the absence of a formal military alliance,... Moscow and Beijing will continue to cooperate in the field of defensive technologies.
