As an owner of a Sony A7C since its launch and a Fujifilm X100V for the past 2 years, I have only used the latter for the past 2 years. While the A7C is technically a better camera, I find no pleasure in photographing with it. The colors are significantly inferior to the Fuji and require hours in Lightroom to achieve similar results. The X100V continues to amaze me with the quality of photos I can produce with it. I eventually sold my Sony A7C, which had been sitting idle in a closet for 2 years

I love, love, love, love my Fuji VI. It brings me so much joy every time I use it. It is so versatile in so many ways. Would never sell it even though I could sell it for £400 more than I paid for it new. The colours are fabulous and it fits in my jeans pocket.

Couldn't agree more! I did a similar switch, I went with the A7CII. And happy I did.

For Fujifilm, this is a case of "one step too far". The 40MP sensor is simply not appropriate for APS-C until technology catches up and solve the noise issue. In any case, 24MP is the sweet spot for stills, irregardless of sensor size.

I enjoyed my x100v so when the x100vi was announced I pre-ordered. During the ensuing 2 month wait unexpectedly I came into possession of an open box "used" a7CR. After using the new Fuji intensively for 3 weeks, I, too, sold it (for more than it had cost!). Why? Handling of the a7CR was so, so, so much better.

Both the x100v and x100vi have poorly made wheels, knobs and buttons. The aperture ring on the lens is too stiff. Changing apertures while composing shakes the camera. The back button which I set to AF is too flush with the surface and hard to find with my thumb. Indeed on the x100v I'd put a dollop of hot glue on it to give it a braille-like contour. Yes, the Fuji has bracketing drive modes for exposure and focus, but they require menu diving and can't be selected (or deselected) on the fly. Same with motor drive (continuous) and with intervalometer, inaccessible. The Fuji has film simulations. In my first 50 years of photography I had enough experience with film to last the rest of my life. I shoot only RAW, fine tune WB and grain in LrC. Fuji wastes a control wheel and a quick menu button on film simulations.

Sony on the other hand gives me C buttons and control wheel functions I can program for focus mag, peaking color, peaking intensity, dedicated drive mode control, a wide selection of custom Fn fields, custom menus, a Bluetooth remote, etc. AFC tracking, subject I.D. when activated, and MF with mag + peaking are all a pleasure on the Sony. (vs. your a7C the viewfinder is larger, nearly as good as was the EVF on my 2019 a7iii)

And let's talk about Fuji's terrible focusing. The MF ring on the lens is imprecise with a time delay. The hybrid viewfinder is neither a good OVF nor a good EVF. When in OVF the tiny EVF wind which can be called up is too small to be of use. Peaking is too crude for use (even my 2011 Sony Nex-7 is far better). AFC is poor, MF frustrating instead of fun.

Why was I enthusiastic, for 2 years, about my x100v? Because it was so much smaller and lighter than my FF Sony a7Rv. Now the a7CR has replaced both the Fuji (sold) and my a7Rv (relegated to backup!). For lightest weight and most compact size I mount a Sony 2.5/40 G (173g, immaculate optics) with which it draws circles around the Fuji at little more weight. But I also use it with my 4 Sony and Tamron zooms, 3 Zeiss primes and Loawa 15mm Zero-D.

I agree entirely and went with the Nikon ZF instead, plus the Megadap EtoZ adapter to add my Sony lenses.

I don’t get Sony autofocus speeds but I do get eye autofocus with manual focus lenses for added fun.

Sold my x100v and picked up a a7iii. Miss the film simulations, but finally got it to look close to classic chrome out of camera. Dont miss the crap battery, with the Sony I don’t even look at battery level. Missed many shots with the autofocus on Fuji, Sony has next level focusing. Low light isn’t even close to full frame capability. I have a tiny 1.8 45mm that lives on my a7iii

Full frame inter-changable vs APC fixed seems to be the real comparison here.

In a pinch you can pocket x100? cameras, and it has a silent leaf shutter that allows slow syncro.

I keep thinking of upgrading to the X100VI from my X100F but no, the old F model is just too good.

For Sony A7C, I once rented that camera for a while, and while small and capable (imagine a mini-full frame), I attached Tamron 28-75mm, which make the setup front-heavy, only if smaller lenses are available...

Agree as well, I also went for the ZF.
But I am thinking about the a7cR - a 61 megapixel monster, same size and great AF .

The VF and the display are far better on the Fuji. I have the A7c II and the Fuji X100V. The A7c II has a better VF and IMO far better colours than previous Sony cameras, but I still prefer the Fuji. You’re correct: on paper they are comparable regarding weight and size, but in real live, the Fuji, although not pocketable as a Ricoh, is much more suitable as an EDC. It feels comfortable to just sling it around your neck, the Sony just is that little bit to heavy and weighty. I own the X100V since 4 years and the A7c II since 3 months. My judgement on the older Sony colours is based on my A6400, that’s apart from the jpgs still a very capable camera. Fuji AF is an annoying issue, I admit it.

Normally we say 'form follows function'. With the Fuji, it seems as if function follows form - which is not necessarily a good thing. There is a reason why modern cameras have taken to a different look. It is driven by usability. And even with that said, I actually do not think that the Fuji looks that good. With the deficiencies mentioned, it is also way over-priced. I feel you made the right choice. Don't just follow the herd, be a leader.

What about the Fujifilm X M5? Do you think its a good replacement for X100VI?

Camera doesn’t make beautiful photos but your mind and eyes. How many of you in the comments took a large number of quality photos with your existing camera rather than having GAS syndrome. I guess hardly. I am still having fujifilm x100T ( bought in the year 2017) and happy with it.

I did have a x100 v. I just couldn't gel with it, just didn't like it. I would defitnitely go with the sony.

The A7Cii is a far superior cam. That being said, I think the new X-M5 is a really great replacement for (actually better) than the x100vi.

I find myself using my x100v at night because of the built-in flash or with fast-moving subjects as it doesn't have rolling shutter issues. I use my a7cr for day and slow moving. Both epic in different ways
