Well, If you concider your body in catatonic state a creature, you could use Imprisonment, specificly Minimus Containment useing the same for example ruby as a material component. So unless someone uses dispel magic antimagic field or certain condition is met, then the gem is undistructable with you body not ageing nor needing food safely inside. Also if you feel in danger in the host body, use the action just before it Is about to die. Fine choice would be to take a lucky feat and/or resiliant feat for charisma save. Also as long as you have enough of gems, you can make multiple magic jars this way. Effectivly makeing yourself a boss with unlimited number of stages. "oh no, you are about to kill my Warlord body" *uses action to return to prvious one* *says a password for his Imprisonment* "Hope you like my Archdruid"

I had a player magic jar a githyanki gish . Wow, broken as hell. 90 damage a round average with no resources . Can cast a full level spell and then make a 30 damage weapon attack. And their hp was insane because according to Crawford, your hitdice count as a class feature that you get to add to your magic jar’d creature . So badass and powerful

Magic jar + Similacrum; you have the Similacrum cast the magic jar spell on a diamond you have in a necklace; you hide the similacrum body on Astral plane; it won’t age, eat or breath there. Now you have a magic item (necklace) that lets you take control of anyone with CHR saving throw; you posses something, have it fight its freinds then bounce out of body before it dies.

So a few months ago I was looking at this spell and I think I found a loophole that I don’t think anyone else has seen. Allow me to present it:

How to become a Dragon

Step 1. Get a 1 inch cube of dragon flesh, and put it in some bog water or something to preserve it.

Step 2. Cast Clone on it when the time is ready. Wait 120 days.

Step 3. When fresh dragon body is prepared, cast Nystul’s Magic Aura on it once per day for 30 days, till the dragon detects as a humanoid.

Step 4. Have Death Ward cast on me, preventing any effect that would cause me immediate death.

Step 5. Cast Magic Jar

Step 6. Possess the dragon’s form, as it now detects as a humanoid to Magic spells.

Step 7. Destroy the jar while being at least 101ft away from it, thus causing the Magic Jar spell to safely end. Congratulations. You are now a dragon.

Oh, and by the way, now you can take chunks out of your own dragon hide and create clones of yourself, so you are now an immortal wizard dragon.

I assume in this process that the dragon in question has already died, and that the cube of flesh is from a finished job. But I suppose you could try this experiment on a living dragon without casting Clone. You’d have to cast Magic Aura on a willing dragon for 30 days, so good luck with that. I’d stick to making sure the dragon is already dead. Much neater. Problem is finding a dead dragon out in the wild of exceptional quality that you’d want to inhabit. Or else you’ll have to orchestrate the murder of one to get the goods. Dangerous business, but very doable.

So a cool idea is to start off a campaign on the spell magic jar and you find a character to take, but forget your magic

I'm running a Spirits Bard (Charisma!) with magical secrets taking magic jar and death ward as a safety net, idea is you first cast death ward on yourself which lasts upto 8hrs (plenty of time for you to gather intel, sabotage, etc) then cast magic jar to possess an npc, directly off your new body, they die and normally you have to do a saving throw and in the off chance you fail you still won't die thanks to death ward your soul should just go back to your body if it's within range. This ensures you eliminate the target especially if they're a powerful threat in the chance they do survive the dangerous situation you put them in, a DM can meddle with an expected outcome

Hey Sage! 👋😁
I really like this video and I really like this complicated spell! I love all the suggestions and ideas you put out there.
One of the ways I would do it, if this is even allowed. A sorcerer with lesser skill picks up the diamond or amulet. Their would wear or use this magical item to boost their abilities not realizing there is a dark wizard inside of diamond or amulet. The dark wizard would slowly be possessive the user of this item and the sorcerer would be having these dreams, visions, or memories that they don't understand. Not realizing that they're slowly being possessed by a dark wizard. Depending on how you play your game and do your rolls will determine the outcome. Will thier become fully possessed or be able to separate themselves from the diamond or amulet.

Again awesome video my dude looking forward to seeing the next one. 🤘😁❤

Clone would make this an interesting way to assassinate an evil npc

This sounds like it was made for liches and their servents. You and your are tasked to find missing villagers. You hear rumors of a once vanquished lich and the abandoned fort she used to occupy. When you get there you see that the fort was built on an old diamond mine and the lich is not dead and the villagers that are missing are at her beck and call. What you don't know is the villagers are possessed by the liches followers who were promised immortality for 1000 years of active service. Problem is she keeps trapping them in the diamonds and rotates them so they never spend more than a day of service out of time. You now have to free the villagers destroy the lich and find a way to break the contract the lich has over her servents so they can finally move on in peace

Magic jar is legitimately stronger then any 8th level spell

clone spell + magic jar... you are basically immortal and can keep jumping around taking over bodies, not sure a PC pull this off as it relies on very high level spells and 120 days for the clone, but as a PC I would never use magic jar without a clone

What happens if your Simulacrum casts true polymorph on the 500 gp hollow human sized statue and change it into a creature? Specifically a Inquisitor of the Sword (from Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft)... but first you cast Magic Jar using the 500 gp statue as your container.

Now your soul is in the container which then becomes the Inquisitor of the Sword and you possess the Inquisitor of the Sword.

Lots of fun times!

In theory couldn't you have the party just dumb you original body into a bag of holding and just have that ready to toss your original body out if you think your about to die I'm not to sure as to how well that would work but doesn't 5e have a whole slue of of pocket Demention items at this point, you could potentially do that with?
