Get More Consistent Out Of The Bunker - Bunker Shots - DWG

The key to consistency in a bunker is controlling your low point. In this video, Dan shows how to figure out where your low point is and how to control your swing in the bunker so you too can be more consistent out of the bunker.

Hi Dan. Standard bunker technique with shallow entry etc is all well and good when you have 2 inches of sand underneath. But in Australia I estimate only 25% of courses (mostly expensive private) have this with the rest having very little/no sand or wet because of rain. Youtubers never do videos on these for some reason, it would be great if you could.

Love the video, think it helps explain good technique to control low point. Would love a follow up video on how to control spin out of the bunker. I know this can vary a lot depending on lie/sand/green/ball but would love to hear on what techniques you use to try and get a ball to run out or check out of a bunker shot and maybe how you determine what you expect it to do.

great video Dan. Thank You. Could you please complete the information talking about the back swing (flat, connected or a little steep ?). Thanks. Rico

How would you play a bunker shot with heavy, sand... and LOTS of it? Last time I was at a local course it appeared that the maintenance crew dumped six months worth of sand into some bunkers so they wouldn't have to come back to them for a while. Even opening up the blade of a sand wedge with 14 degrees of bounce, to promote even more bounce, my and my playing partners clubs were sliding UNDER the ball all day, with the ball barely moving. (digging in at address, the sand was up to our ankles)

4:00 "This is how I'd expect to find the bunker". Unfortunately, I expect to find my ball plugged or sitting in a deep footprint or rake rut ☹️. Our bunkers are soooo soft, deep-sanded and finely-grained (if the ball rolls in, it is still 1/4 buried from its own weight) that they take an eternity to rake smoothly. Combine that with players that are lazy rakers or scared of holding up play, and your odds aren't good. Practicing bunker shots from good lies feels pointless when probably 10% of my bunker lies are good.
