Make Traditional Ube Jam For All Your Favorite Ube Recipes (Homemade Ube Halaya)

Ube is a wonderfully colored yam, a relative to our more familiar sweet potatoes, and is a popular ingredient in the Philippines. The texture is even similar to sweet potatoes, but while sweet potatoes have a nutty, vanilla taste, purple yams are even sweeter and a bit more mellow.

You can use this ube halaya jam in baked enriched doughs, ube pastries, halo-halo (a great Filipino dessert made of crushed ice, evaporated milk, and other ingredients like coconut strips and sweetened beans), and even my 3 Ingredient Ube Ice Cream!

Ube’s my favorite! I got mine straight from a relative’s farm from the Philippines! Made a whole bunch and put it in the fridge to enjoy for the rest of the year 😍

Hello Gemma! I'm 26 years old and I've been making Ube Halaya since I was a little girl (at that point, I was just an assistant to my grandma or parents, in the kitchen lol). I am happy to see that you make your Ube Halaya in the traditional way we make them! And I am absolutely sure that it is very very good. I highly recommend for everyone to try making it.

I love watching your videos! Regards from the Philippines ☺️

Hi Gemma! You can actually find ube all the time at Asian markets, like Seafood City, here in the greater LA area :)

I grew up making this with my grandma because she couldn’t stir it anymore as she got older haha. This brings back many memories. I’m going to have to make a potful now! ☺️

OMG! I love, love, love Ube Halaya! Actually, I'm eating one right now :)! Actually, my grandma usually makes this and gives it to us, she doesn't have a stick blender and she only uses a fork to mash ube... Love to see you making it! Pinoy Proud!

OMG my aunt used to make this 😭😭😭 I miss it so much. I wish I can bring fresh ube from the Philippines (my homeland) but US customs don't allow it. I'm so happy an Irish is loving and creating ube foods ☺️

Ube is amazing! I’ve made brownies and cupcakes with it and it’s so sweet, you almost don’t need to add sugar. I want to make a mooncake with it.

That's just how we cook it. It has evap, condensed and coconut milk. We put lemon zest too. We used to cook that with my grandmother on holidays here in the Philippines. I love ube halaya.
