I laughed so hard at this! I was part of the orchestra shot and I was so surprised of the little research they made to carry it through! They even hired music students or amateurs to play the extras so it seemed reasonable that they would also have at least some attention to these details!

Out of tuning seems to me like a symbol of chaos, and is meant to sound unsettling. Nolan also uses reversed music in a lot of scenes, symbolizing inverted entropy; chaos into order; effect before cause. If we were inverted while the world is moving in the opposite direction in time, we’d feel out of tune on a different isolated frequency. Unsettling,
