Motorola Droid X2 Review

The Motorola Droid X2 struck from the middle of nowhere, and we're here to report that this was a worthy surprise. While the phone may appear unchanged on the outside, Motorola has made several tweaks under the hood, including a 1GHz dual-core processor and 4.3-inch qHD screen. Although the 8-megapixel camera remained unchanged sensor-wise, Motorola improved shot times by adding Continuous Autofocus into the mix, though we didn't see 1080p video recording this time around. As Verizon's first dual-core phone, the Droid X2 goes head to head with the Motorola Atrix 4G for AT&T and T-Mobile G2x, though you'll notice one crucial spec—the Droid lacks 4G connectivity. Verizon is leaving that to the Droid Bionic, to be released in the coming months, but if you can't wait that long or don't need 4G, the Motorola Droid X2 (specs) is a top-notch entertainment powerhouse.

Great review! I need an upgrade for my original Droid, and this looks like a good choice, but I'm torn whether I should wait for the Bionic. I would really like something with an unlock-able boot loader. I live in an area without 4G, and we probably won't get it for a year or two, so I'm not concerned about that, and I never use the front facing camera on my iPod 4G, so I don't think I need one on my phone.

Should I go for the Droid X2 or wait for the Bionic?

Upgraded from a Blackberry Storm 2 (that i have had since the day it came out) to the droid x2 today.... I don't understand how i lived with the blackberry for 2 years!

@thenunez96 I've had my original Droid for 2 years now, so I was eligible for an upgrade. Sorry to hear that about your Droid X, I got the X2 a few days ago and did a video review of it already. I really like it, but it does have one or two bugs that are odd, though they don't really change the fact that it's a fantastic phone.

@Son37Lumiere I got my own X2 in, and you can definitely tell the difference. That said, I'll be keeping it, the display is still very crisp and high rez.

I've heard that the Droid X2 uses a pentile display. Can you confirm this? I didn't notice whether it did or not in the Verizon store, I didn't look close enough.

You don't have to hit space button on SWYPE between each word. The SWYPE does the spacing for you. Just saying since you were hitting the space key manually on the vid.

@Son37Lumiere Are you having banding issues as well? The original Droid had banding issues until the firmware update then it turned into one of the best mobile displays out there, so I'm hoping they will fix this with a software update too. Otherwise, the color depth is very disappointing, even if the screen is great overall.

@BewarA714 It's a tough call because my Droid is dying on me slowly. I don't really need 4G, and after messing with my dad's Thunderbolt I think it might suck too much battery to be worth it. The Bionic will probably be bigger and heavier than the X2 as well. We don't really know what the Bionic will look like yet, Moto said they changed the design. I'm literally sitting on the VZW purchase page, debating this lol.

Hey, I am an amateur at Droid phones. And I was wondering, if they have the security lock like other Droid phones. And does this phone have Facebook and under other social networking sites like Twitter and YouTube?
