The biggest swell in years hit most of the state’s north-facing shores on Saturday, Jan. 16. Wave heights reached about 45 feet, with some 60-foot sets coming through on Oahu’s North Shore.

I've seen Waimea when it was "closed out" that means waves breaking all the way across, white all the way across. It was impressive!

My first trip there was in November 78, drove that highway the “day after a storm” was quite impressed by the logs, sand and debris on the south side of the highway. First time seeing big waves, standing on Sunset Beach watching 30 and 40 footers, crash before me, wondering just how big things must have been the day before.

That's impressive !! I was there in 1970 and the undertow almost got me. I guess I had consumed too much Maui Wowie...

Saw them. Didn't realize how massive they were until I saw people surfing.

Right after Ben Aipia passed, he blessed the shore one more time. Ride easy.

So 30 feet Hawaiian would be about 50 foot everywhere else in the world. Lol

Not having the Eddie is bullshit . CoVid is a natural phenomenon as is this swell . You don’t ignore either . But let them compete . Time is limited . These swells happen so rarely

Imagine the very first time a Hawaiian took a board to surf N shore monsters? Without the tow assist it must have been a blood bath
