Blood Plasma Problems

A Las Vegas woman is claiming that donating blood plasma has seriously affected her health and has filed a lawsuit. Joe Bartels reporting.

My wife and I donated for about 5 months when we were in a bind and never had any serious issues. Everyone reacts differently. I could donate and then have a rigorous workout after and functiin fine. My wife on the other hand would be exhausted for the rest of the day.

I "donated" for many years. Many times it went well. Sometimes I've fainted, especially if you're not well hydrated or doing any exercise, even something like walking. It's much worse when it's very HOT outside. As long as your eating well, and drinking lots of water, normally, you should be fine. The health problems come when some employee sticks you, who really shouldn't. You get whats called a hematoma. The area around the needle gets very swelled up with your blood. Unfortunately there is nothing you can really do to prevent one of the inexperienced employees (who haven't had good training) from giving you a bad hematoma. Sadly I've had two so far. Just make sure that the person who sticks you, is very good at what they do. Thanks.

So I am a BioLife client and they stated I had a seizure in there facility. The called an ambulance and sent me to the hospital. The machine I was on malfunctioned while I was at the end of the donation, (it turned completely off and they couldn't get it to turn back on!) I'm not over weight but not underweight either. Ended up in hospital and told me I just had a fainting spell and sent me home after fluids were administered. Now they are telling me because of the hospital not stating that I had a seizure I can no longer donate anymore. It's wrong!!

They make 1000 off a bag of plasma and give you 100..think about that. They always put these in poor communities for a reason..i speak from experience of being a moron thinking it wouldnt bother me but now i have bad breathing every now and then..cant get to sleep..dont do it

I’ve donated plasma in the past with my right arm. Today I donated with my left and strangely I got extremely nauseous and my eyes started tearing up though I didn’t realize it. I normally get cold but I wasn’t cold at all throughout the donation today. When I finished, I was told I could stay or leave but they didn’t offer me any water or snack so I just left. Luckily, my boyfriend was my ride, and we drove off. Within a couple minutes, my nausea got worse and I puked all over is car, more like than when I’m hung over. We tried calling the clinic but they hung up on us. I don’t think I’ll be donating anymore as well, it can be scary out of no where even with proper precautions. I’m shocked my blood pressure didn’t show any red flags

At some point you have to stop donating . You develop scars on the inside of your forearms from the needle . The scars never go away. I had to stop because I didn't want to increase the scars. No more donating for me... ever.

Obviously they making a lot of money in plasma center I donate plasma about a month ago during the processing I passed out and I asked Stop taking my blood they took the needle from my right hand and they put it in the left hand instead of stop The procedure after that I passed out they told me to drink water then I said hey I’m dizzy so anyway after 15 minutes did he didn’t even called for an ambulance they don’t have real nurse or doctor over there And I went home by the time I get home my wife had to call the ambulance because I was having a heart attack just want to let you guys know be careful they make a lot of money from your blood

since after 4 months ...I donated plasma i notice i had frequent chest pain and dizziness during the donation and when was the last cycles my chest started to feel if i rub VICKS on it and I felt so cold feeling... until a point that just couldn't even go to work ...i even change jobs and started as a CSR and still the dizziness was more frequent and that's when I went to the Emergency room, , the short breaths was getting worse .... I couldn't even walk less then 10 feet away .... in hospital did exams says I was healthy as horse but i notice my iron kept doing down and donating had a major effect for the rest of my life now... now I can't even do activates like a normal person without feeling dizziness nausea, short breath, chest pain and tiredness ..even to pick something from the floor I feel like drunkenness :(

I will have to side with her on one issue if she actually did pass out they should've at least had her lay down for a certain amount of time and give her plenty of fluids and something to eat. At the grifols plasma center here in Indiana that is part of the protocol if they are unable to return the blood back into your body you have to stay seated drink a full bottle of Gatorade and eat something that they give you before you can leave.

Today I was denied donating plasma and I'm glad they said my blood iron was one point above 54 but I'm glad I didn't do it and then the lady accused me of trying to drink water before I came in she acted like I was a criminal I've never donated plasma my life I don't know their little fancy tricks for getting away with donating or none of that I just went in to do it cuz my son passed away cancer I thought I'd try to help people and they were all annoying and mean

I tried to give plasma once because I heard it wasn't that difficult.
Shiiit, they hook you up to this machine and it sucks your blood like a vacuum cleaner.
I almost passed out. Fck that

i only donated once and i passed out. the staff did something wrong and there was blood dripping down my arm. it was very scary and i won’t be donating plasm again. i never had problems with needles but now i’m scared to give blood. all they did was give me a sugar drink and check my heart. i’ve heard that a lot of phlebotomists in plasma centers aren’t certified and don’t have any experience. someone i know that works at one said he never practiced before they let him start working on a patient…

How should the center know if the woman doesn't know her own body. I have never donated plasma but I donate blood for years and have no problems.
