I want an explanation from a programmer's viewpoint; why use an MPU over an MCU? I've only ever programmed bare metal on MCUs and am trying to get to understand where an MPU would be useful. A chip with a full OS just seems like a ton of overkill. What type of projects need that kind of computing power?
