This solution even half-validates one of Dual Process Theory’s main points that Faded is asking for Altered’s name. The answer is that *both* Faded and Altered are asking for each other’s names on these two pages. DPT’s ultimate conclusion is wrong, but they were 100% right to call out that the dialogue is not straightforwardly just Altered guiding Faded.

All of the foreshadowing in regards to "reflection" is perhaps the funniest thing I have ever NOT noticed within this franchise. I feel like Scot was trolling with us in VIP by using Ike and Devon as brothers. It’s like he combined cc’s actual name and the name everyone was calling him. Dave + Evan = Devan ≈ Devon

17:37 David's whole thing is being a Little Guy who triumphs over someone bigger than him, and CC very much *doesn't* do that, but it could be an ironic reference. He's also the youngest of several brothers and the entire reason he was at the battlefield was because his dad sent him to bring food to his brothers, who were actual soldiers. It's hard to make this a one to one analogy, but to me it does feel like you could see the bite of 83 as David vs Goliath where David loses. The only other similar, at least Tanakh/old testament story coming to mind right now is when Joseph's brothers sell him into slavery. If Scott had went with that, you could perhaps theorize that Mike saw CC as William's favorite, but Joe does not feel right as a name for CC (from the perspective of Scott deciding the name)

I saw a comment about the names Dave, Michael, William, and Elizabeth using their translations from Hebrew

William: to protect. Is he God in this story trying to protect his children?

Michael: “who is like God?” This is debated because the name is supposed to be a rhetorical question that nobody is like God, but I saw someone say this can mean that Michael looks like William

Michael was a good name choice because it plays into his father being British; William would have called his son Michael, but likely as an American he'd end up being called Mike by his peers. Equally Dave is probably David; but Mike probably called him Dave. This is why the paychecks say "Mike" but when he sends a message to his father, Mike clarifies that; "Father, It's me; Michael."
In this same way I would suggest we watch out for Americans calling someone "Bill" or "Liz" or "Abby". If Mrs. Afton is an American, there could be a deeper lore detail here; suggesting that Dave and Mike would favor what their mom would call them over what their father would call them.

Also in Silver Eves William even used the name Dave as his fake identity, and at this point we know that Scott likes to reuse names, so I think it fits even better with that context

Now that I think about it, I think there was an interview where Scott mentioned that one person on Reddit got it right, but didn't want to spoil who it was. I might be misremembering, but I think Matpat mentioned it at some point.

The problem people will have with this will believe it literally was just that annoyingly simple and I think it was the whole mf time. I remember seeing this answer years ago, but it was dismissed so many times as well as the name "evan" I think people were looking for too much depth, and it's just that EASY and im sure people will still crap on it but this makes so much more sense to me when I seen their video myself

Legit, this mystery could have been solved way sooner if it weren’t for the butterfly effect of one guy getting 3/4 of the letters right, then messing up the last one causing most people to not even think of retrying this solution for some reason.

All those inside jokes about CC being the only character to have no name for years? All caused by one mistake and no one thinking to retry that method.

It’s weird to think about in retrospect if this was the solution for so long.
