Went through your experience, using Progressive for the initial 6 months, then premium went up next 6 months, then went up again for next 6 months and I saw no end in sight. Then, Tesla insurance became available in Texas and I jumped on it ASAP. Much less expensive, however, the safety score messes with your sanity and reduces the Tesla driving experience. You have to determine what is more important.

If you call Tesla Insurance you can increase the coverage to try to get a fair comparison. And they will also ensure all vehicles including your roadster assuming you have at least one Tesla on the account already. That non-Tesla or roadster in your case would not have the real time safety score but would benefit from a group discount

The coverages are king that what makes premiums go up. My step mom had a bad accident years ago and the lower coverages she had almost screwed her. My family bumped up coverage levels just to make sure. Cool video.

We had progressive as soon as we bought our Tesla and we had it at $330 a month. We got Tesla insurance 2 days later for the exact same coverage at $114 a month. So far so good. Driving score is about 94

Im 26 and I have a Tesla and Tesla insurance. I originally had progressive with minimum coverage and paid 94/month. I now have Tesla and pay 130/month but I have FULL coverage. Full coverage with progressive was 329/month. So it’s definitely worth it!

I checked on my Tesla app for insuring my Tesla Model X but I didn't see if it covers Rental reimbursements that my current Allstate policy covers. Does your Policy have that coverage?

I wish we could have seen the diving scores on other vehicles, like the one you drive. I know you said you drive aggressively, so it would be interesting to see.

90 is the base safety score. After 2 months your rates drop or increase based on your driving. Accelerating or speeding makes no difference in your score. I typically only get dinged in aggressive turning and occasionally hard breaking when I have to use the break. My score is 98 now and I saved an additional 30% off that initial 90 base score

I hope you're comparing coverages. I wanted to go Tesla too, but my coverage limits are considerably better for the same premium as Tesla wanted. I would even pay slightly more, but Tesla wouldn't let me up the coverages to match my current insurance policy.

I got it in Illinois. With the default 90 safety score I was paying $80/month for the first 2 months. Got the score to 98 and now paying $60/month.

I have a model 3 lr that I bought a year ago, almost to the day in Texas. I had Safeco insurance (2 vehicles, 2 harleys and our home). They wanted $90/month. Tesla started with the 90 safety score at $75/month with exactly matching coverages. I typically run 97 on my safety score which has averaged $68.53 for the year. I was just informed that Tesla was changing from using an underwriter to having Tesla underwrite and that my new premium after the change would be $60.55 which was over $8 less. I drive less than you. The safety score process will incentivise you and yours to be better drivers. It's more about ego than money. The good part is they are very clear about what they don't like. They don't care at all about acceleration or speed. Tailgaters beware. Use autopilot, it can brake hard in situations that would earn you a ding. It also can corner faster without a ding.

Most insurance companies where I live have $1M coverages outlined especially liability in case you cause personal injuries or hit a house, etc. think twice about such low coverage
