There's several examples of dual prophecies in the Bible, Isaiah 53 describes step by step what happened to Jesus yet your confirmation bias blinds you, how would the nation of Israel (His people) be punished for the sins of His people? "By oppression and judgment He was taken away, and who can recount His descendants? For He was cut off from the land of the living; He was stricken for the transgression of My people" - Isaiah 53:8. In all things praise be to God and peace be upon thee.

It's very helpful to read Isaiah 40-55. When read, it's clear that 53 is not anticipating any theology concerning Jesus.

Great point. A prophecy needs to be understood by the contemporary audience for it to be useful and Isaiah was written 6-8 centuries prior.

Once I reread all the so called prophecy's about jesus in the book of Isaiah I saw that they were not talking about jesus at all.

I love how you refer to that shirt like it’s a classical work of art. “This is the Botticelli Madonna, and this is the Mignola Hellboy.”

I love the Hellboy shirt. One of my favorite comic heroes.

I wish you elaborated. Basically, the text speaks of the nation of Israel and the faithful remnant taking the pain of the nation of Israel with them like a father bears the pain of his sick son, no atonement of sin or anything like that, just shared pain. The Father stays by the son and bears his pain and gives intercession for the sinful nation. The writers of the NT created stories to fit this chapter Isaiah is indeed a beautiful book, I wish people appreciated such magnificent literature without making things supernatural without any need.

Once I learned this there was no going back to evangelical exegesis on the Hebrew Bible.

Christians have often asked me incredulously why I don't see Jesus as the Messiah, given all the "proofs" in Isaiah. What is ignored is that the Messiah is someone who does things, not someone who has things done to him. And Jesus did not do any of the things Jews were waiting for (and are waiting for).

Dan I believe Isaiah 53 is both historic showing the suffering of the nation of Israel from Isaiah 49 and a prediction of Christ the suffering servant in the NT. It is not an either or proposition. Sometimes two things can be true. I might be wrong you are the scholar. Love your videos.

There is plenty of evidence from Jewish resources that were not Christians that the Jews saw this as a Messianic prophecy. Prior to 1000 CE the most common view of Isaiah 53 is that “the suffering servant” was an individual, but then they switched their interpretation to him being a nation because Christians were using it to evangelize. Dan, please stop making claims without evidence.

Exactly. Christianity fails with the false claims which can easily be checked and refuted. The suffering servant is Israel or in my opinion the righteous remnant of Israel at the time of the author of Isaiah 53

There are no explicit prophecies about Yeshua in the OT. It's time Christians lay down the OT. It's not their book.

A quick google search I’ve found in the Targum Jonathan on Isaiah 53 a verse translated as “that they might see the kingdom of their messiah”

It’s not bulletproof, but a connection to “a messiah” or it’s time period has been made.

I hope it could be addressed in future videos.

It's almost as though Christians want to make EVERYTHING about Jesus...

This doesn't take into account that some people religiously believe everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen occurs all at once.

Reinterpretation of Scripture is something that has been going on for centuries. To think that a passage of Scripture has always meant one and only one thing is shallow thinking, but unfortunately it's all too common in the church today. And, oh, does it cause problems...

Must be raining. Dan's not taking a power walk in this vid.

Exactly, no need for re-negotiations. Certainly early Christian challenged the story of crucifixion's, so they found these texts about God crushing his servant. Except in the case of Christians, God crushing himself since Jesus is God according to them.

Nice to see honest person debunking this nonsense.

Isaiah was not talking about a man God idol trinity pagan human sacrifice calvary 700 years after Isaiah lived..
